On my second day without tobacco, snuff, dip, chew, cud. Damn, stopping drinking was easy compared to this ! b.t.w. Its been two years since I quit that, and can count on one hand # of drinks or beers had since !Between the two I should be able to afford a new boat !
Congrats…itll make a healthier you! Lost a friend last week…too much booze got his liver and kidneys. He was 49.
Good for you! I quit the booze almost 11 years ago. Quit smoking back in April. Its not easy at all. I do use an e cig though.
Congrats!! Stick with it!Dan
I wish you all the luck in the world in your endeavor !!! — Tobacco was one vise I never did get into . — I do ” LOVE ” a cold beer after a hard day at the office though . — Keep at it D/B !! — Not an easy task , from what I hear , but it is do-able . — Youve been added to the prayer list . — Hoss
Once my mind is made up to get away from something,,,,,, done. But this stuff has a grip that alcohol didnt. Nicotine is quite a drug, and addictive as all get out, ill be glad when this is more better. Im a bit “testy” according to folks around me,,,, ?
I quit chewing a year and half ago…for the second time. First time was almost 20 years ago.If anybody cares, I will share how I quit the 2nd time and it made it ALOT easier than the first time. Still hard, no doubt, but not near as much agony as the first time. I went through the 1800quitnow program and their booklet gave some info that IMO was almost priceless.I never knew that Cope, Skoal original, etc were absolutely ridicously loaded with nicotine compared to cheaper brands. I believe they claim a can of Cope is equal to 110 cigs!! I switched from Cope to grizzly. Grizzly has CONSIDERABLY less nicotine that Cope. I felt slight withdrawal symptoms from just that change, but nothing earth shattering. When I finally quit, I started with the higher nicotine patches and gum, then after a couple weeks stepped down to the lower grade gum. Maybe it will help somebody…it sure helped me.
Just this past weekend I did a cat scan on a 90 year old man that has a lump in his throat. When I went to get him from his room to take him to CT, he asked if he had to get rid of his dip because he had just taken his last one out of the can and he wouldnt have any until his daughter came back. He said the dr thinks its cancer and most likely from his tobacco use. Even at 90 and using tobacco for many many years, he said if the dr tells him that he needs to quit then he will quit. You can do it Big D! We want you around for many more GAFs and OIs.Jim EbarbMany, LA (Toledo Bend Lake)2004 Cougar/ 225 OptimaxHumminbird Helix 12 Chirp SI on BalzOut Mount at bowLowrance HDS 7 at bowHumminbird Helix 12 Mega SI on Ram Mount at ConsoleLowrance HDS 8 in dash at console
I quit all tobacco products going on 11 years ago….pack and a half a day for 19 years…..was tough but I am in better shape at 50 than I was at 30. My secret was sunflower seeds…..the flavored ones rock and kept be busy instead of thinking about a tobacco product. I still like my beer….ha haElwood…..Bass Cat Proud
I quit chewing five years ago. I tried four or five times but like you said it is a tough addiction. I went to the doctor and he prescribed wellbutrin. It was amazing I still had cravings but it took away the anxiety associated with it. I quit easily and have never chewed since. Good luck however you do it.
Chris, Mainliner61, Congrats!! Congrats to everyone who are making changes for their better health!Dan
Hang in there boys ! After quitting drinking, now tobacco, already gave up other stuff ;(, damned if I aint gonna take up fishing ! Well crap, 6 nice bucks just walked thru my back yard,,,,, like I said, damned if I aint gonna take up huntin !!!!!
glad to know Im not the only one hooked on dip. Ive tried to quit several times…. even became a closet dipper once because I told my wife I would quit. finally came clean on that one but now I feel like a loser because it has such a hold on me. As soon as football season is over Im gonna give it another go….
This Dec 1st will be eleven years for me after over 18 years of smoking like chimney….I quit cold turkey and never looked back. Sunflower seeds was my crutch. I did have a few rough times with weight gain and urges to cheat but now I am in better shape at 50 than I was at 30. Hang in there and know that you are looking out for your future and the fact that you will be around for people that love you the most……Elwood…..Bass Cat Proud
