Radio Mounting Location question…..

For the one with radios in there boat, are there any advantages/disadvantages over having BCB mount it in the console or under the console. If anyone has any pics would like to see them. I am trying to decide where I would like it installed.Thanks,Jay

I would suggest one of the upper end units from Sony. They are waterproof and sealed allowing you to mount the radio in-dash where it will be convienient for your use. I installed one on my boat and put it in the driver side rod locker for protection from the elements but wish I had spent the money on the Sony and put it in dash. The factory installation on my Puma was very neat and well done. The only downside is mounting it under the console makes it inconvenient to access from the drivers seat. You pretty much have to get under the console to see what you are doing. From the bow, all the controls are very easily accessible and visible. If I were going to do it again, Id have my head unit mounted in the console face so that I could see it.

Put it the consoul! I have had it both ways. I even put one inside my dual consoul one time. I love having it on the dash. Get one of the Sony Splashproof radios. It doesnt matter if it gets wet! Look under the boats on the home page and qlick on the Jaguar and scroll down and look at that one. That is where mine is. Mine is located under dash. I have a Sabre FTD so space on my dash is limited since I have the full gauge package. If you have the room on the dash, go that route.

Thanks for all the replies, and thx for the pic dblplasabre. Seems like the majority likes it mounted on/in the console (not under). Next question is where will the key and round touch pad be relocated (on a Puma FTD) if the dash is full with the 2 yamaha digital gauges, trim gauge, PSI gauge, and Jack plate gauge.Thanks again for all the helpful information!Jay

I like the dash also, but with Yammie Gauges you should be able to relocate to gunnel side mount and by your right knee….I think…BrannonYour Signature …

Bulldog, with that many gauges I would mount the radio under dash. That dash is pretty wide but I think all those gauges plus the radio would cramp it up.Here is a pic of a Puma FTD that had full gauges. I forgot to add to the other, is that the radio under the dash nobody knows there is a radio in the boat.

Im about to do the same on my 02 cougar. I think I can move the key to the right side of the steering wheel and dash mount the Sony I just bought. That sounds like the way to go. Any ideas on how to NOT jack up my fiberglass when I cut. Also, where do I get the adapter for the iPhone /iPod that is in the pic and on the new boats.
