Rail mounting a 998

Is it recommended to put the RAM mount on the rail of an 08 Sabre? The rail is secured with the stanchion but not sure if it would provide enough support for a 998. I looked on the RAM website and do not see any double U-bolt mounts that fit a 7/8″ rail. Which RAM did you guys go with? Please send pics if you can. Thanks!

It will work, I did it with a 997, but I wouldnt do it again, it moved a lot when the water got rough. I dont remember the specific mount # though. If you do it this way youll have the best luck if you drill the mount and rail in a discrete area and put a set screw in to secure it. I have a rail mount on my PIV, but I just keep a spare 788 there when I need it and its secure.

My mount is a bit different but I have had the same results as Mike. It will rotate in the rough water. I ran a hds 7 mounted on the rail as above for a year and it did decent but mine also moved around some. I now run a hds 10 on a home made bracket mounted in front of the gear shifter. I personally would just go ahead and make a mount instead of mounting to the rail, but it did work for me when I ran it

Heres where I mounted my HDS-8 on 07 Sabre FTD. Might be a viable alternative. I like itn mounted there more so than I thought I would. And its more out of the way of errant casts. Here are some pics of th eset up I usedHere are some pics of the set up that I had on my boat, when using a 997. Now I have removed the Lowrance from the dash and have put a sherms plate on w/ a 1198. Hope it helps you.

do like that smbass did on that sabre. best install ive seen, even the TDS&S install is first class
