It appears I have lost my rain jacket and I need to replace. Prices seem to be about equal across the board around $300. Which jacket do y’all prefer including the Basscat Gill version? Thanks. Tony D
For the money, GIL is a really good suit.
Rain gear is a moving topic. The very best are in the max lifestyle outdoor gear area like a Sims and they are very expensive. There are other brands and the best depend on Gore-Tex material for moisture barriers.

So… what do you want to know about rain gear? Winter, summer and spring are all different needs to some degree on insulation and shell. For th money, GIL is a really good suit.
Rain gear is a moving topic. The very best are in the max lifestyle outdoor gear area like a Sims and they are very expensive. There are other brands and the best depend on Gore-Tex material for moisture barriers. This product also provides some breathability. Tight cuffs are a major factor for an angler as are water resistant zippers.
The Cuffs should have a pull type wrist band, and neoprene works among the best. Double (2) wrist enclosures make it easier. Cuffs sealing on legs are less important, though overhanging cuffs are as they protect water intrusion on those boots of shoes.
There are a multitude of zippers and obviously YKK is the best brand with time honored quality. The exterior shell needs a surface layering and it should also be dependent on a form of silicone on the barrier. The material can be some form of nylon or poly, and durable to abrasion also.
For boat use a bib type overall style is solid, and crossing rear straps keep the suit on your shoulders. It needs a full zip down front with limited front bulk, for obvious reasons. Double zipper flaps, tucking under the zipper area as well as covering the zipper are a big deal to frontal penetration.
Exterior pockets are underestimated and ease to access with simple zipper enclosures are a key. You can keep the tournament fob, extra worm package, clippers and whatever else you need access to. Leg pockets on the side are a plus and a pocket on the shoulder is a huge asset.
Hood areas should have a collar that has a longer interior wrap and Velcro (3M) on the side at 9:30 or 2:30 on the collar in position, most are in 11 or 1:00 spots. The hood actually should have a double tucked barrier collar like the sleeves, though most all don’t. On the hood a hat brim is a big deal as it prevents run down the neck or collar. It actually should have a flat face that saddles the existing hat you might wear, or it folds if your wearing a beanie and hoodie underneath.
Now… if you find all that it will be a very expensive suit and one that will be the best of cold wet weather gear. We almost had one custom made though volumes required more suits than we felt that we could sell.

I had the bps 100 mph for about 10 years. Its finally given way, rips, torn knees, hook hooks in my back lol. I did alot of research and about a year ago we had an event on lake wylie over 100 boats. Everyone got soaked. I made a post and the few that didnt were wearing gill stuff. I have their light weight inshore suit from bcb its almost rubber like inside good for warmer temps. I just ponied up and ordered the Gill FG21 jacket and bibs, I think with layering it will do what I need fishing all winter into the spring in NC. I got it from tackle warehouse for 20% off which I think runs till tuesday if you hurry.
I appreciate the recommendations. I almost bought a jacket online but at the last minute I got distracted and put it off a day. Good thing too because I tore my shop apart and found it packed away in a bag where it should have been but I just forgot to look there the first time. Thanks
I needed som einsulated bibs and bought the Gill from them. My son has the BCB Gill rain suit and likes it.
I wore the new bibs yesterday. It was in the 40’s when I out in and they were warm. After lunch it got into the 50’s and was sunny. I had to take them off. I will let you know how they do in wet weather.
I have an old Guidewear suit that has been good. It is too heavy in warm weather.
