Interesting article on BassFan by Randy Blaukat, http://bassfan.com/opinion_article.asp?ID=137. I recall a couple of the “self promoters” are sponsored by Bass Cat. As a viewer of Bass Fishing shows on several cable channels and an owner of a 2002 Jag, I must confess that I mute the volume each time one of these self promoters is shown…………while my spouse is no big fan of bass fishing on TV, she expresses the statement, “what a ****** idiot” each time this Bass Cat sponsored angler come on………..cant the “family” find a more balance angler?
All of the BassCat team are excellent fishermen, more importantly, ambassadors for the sport and for BassCat. BassCat is very selective in their promotions, as the average age of a bass fisherman is a little older than one would think. Thus, finding a wide range of appeal to grow the sport is important. Some of the BC pros are more “animated”, but if you attend the Owner Invitational or go to a Bassmaster event, you will see a different, more involved side…signing everything thrown at them, taking pictures with anyone/everyone, almost always the last to leave an event. These anglers do appeal to all generations and more likely than not, different sections of the country with different ideals. Overall, they do a fine job, IMHO.96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
Several professional anglers have recently taken to open media to lash out at others for their failing careers. For my take you can read the post that was posted yesterday on this board – http://basscatowners.yuku.com/topic/113 … -read.html As for criticizing the popular stars of today, what is not mentioned is the ones that have received the coverage are the ones that are producing and making it to the final TV day. In other words, they can flat out fish. Some of the obvious ones that he may be criticizing, and I believe you are also calling out, have been top sticks for years, not based on their antics, but based on their finishes. One BassCat pro took second in both BASS and FLWs largest tournaments last year. He whooped all but two in both major trails (he lost to two BASS Elite Series anglers). Ike has done a great job promoting bass fishing and has done nothing to dishonor the BCB brand since signing on. He can flat out tournament fish. He is also one of the best there is when it comes to instructional videos. Yes, I can do w/out some of the over exuberance and also some of the silly antics w/ hat wear and such, but the kids like it. Heck, I am silly w/ my kid too. And if it introduces new fans to the sport then Im all for it. The BCB pros are doing a great job and I wish them all well in the up coming season.
Last weekend on Bassmasters, or the weekend before, Ike lost a fist close to the boat, fell down on his back on the front deck and started “throwin a fit”…………which included kicking a $2,500 Lowrance unit on the bow………is that what youre wanting your kids to see? ps. you could also see the Bass Cat logo on the floor.

I saw that and it was a testement to the lowrance lcx series….. I dont think they were intended to be kicked. Ike is a good dude from everything i am told off the water but he is a different animal when its tournament day… ALOT of us are… Im not gonna bash the guy he is a good rep for Bass Cat in the overall picture and one heck of a fisherman. In my opinion he hasnt done anything too bad since joining BCB. How come everytime ppl talk about the pros in some matter or another they think of Ike first… Everyone forgets about Niggemeyer he seems like a very nice guy and is up and coming. Marty Stone is a solid pro and he has been around for years. Russ Lane is in the classic on his home lake and should stand a good shot at winning. John Crews is a good guy and a good fisherman and if the anglers made him the president of the PAA that should be a great example of his character. I know there are other BCB pros but i just thought of those guys of the top of my head and i believe BCB has an excellent pro staff.
GO IKE. I fish turnies becouse i like to . I have fished with my kids and a couple of other adults that knew nuthing about tournament fishing. I also have thought it was a good ideal to step up and fish with some serious fishermen to see what it was like. I showed up to the lake nervous as all get thinking man I gona be one of those guys with a big sack. Well each time I was miserable. My partner was so into turnament fishing nothing else mattered. He would get plum mad and just freak if he missed a fish or if somthing went wrong with the boat. I told him man I do this for fun. The pros have a passion for fishing when somthing goes wrong they express their selves however they need to. If they all acted the same “politacly correct” it wouldnt matter who sponsered who and noone would care.Thats what makes America great. If you got the talent you can go out and do whatever you want. If you like watching fishing on tv and dont like whos on there you can change the channell and watch Bill Dance/Roland Martin/and whats his name drink 5hr energy and sell helicopter lures. Ill watch Ike flip a shakey head to a pilar and pull out smallmouths all day long. IMHO
It is the nature of the beast, hype sells and these guys know it. Go back 10 years ago, was KVD or Davy Hite or any other fisherman doing any of this? NO!!!. Now you have KVD doing fist pumps, heck Davy Hite was break dancing on his deck a couple of years ago. Why??? It gets them air time. Look at baseball, is it necessary to point to the sky after you get a base hit. NO!!!! Could you imagine if Ted Williams did that after every hit. I guess what I am saying is “times are a changing”. For the people that are calling out Ike on this post. He has two personas, the on the water Ike and the off the water Ike. If Ike is able to make this years OI, go up and introduce yourself. You might change your tune or see the other side of Ike. The side of Ike that BCB puts a lot of faith in.
Tiger has two personas too! Glynn
One thing i have really noticed by looking at the BASS Opens results from the big O is that alot of the flw tour guys seem to be in the OPENS… Has it always been this many? I heard that alot of them were gonna fish the OPENS in an effort to qualify for the Elites. I dont always follow it that closely is it this common to see so many of them???
