rear deck seat base question

Hey guys, just recently remembered a coangler from a while back who told me that the seat base was loose on the rear deck (maybe the only time I have actually had a seat and pole on the rear deck since Ive had my boat). It is loose upon recent inspection. Looks like it was not glassed in from the factory (probably got distracted by admiring my color choices…understandable ). If it is supposed to be “glassed”, quote me a quick how-to remedy. Not an issue for me personally, just hate to dunk the next coangler who requests a seat…particularly if he cant swim!!!

There is no way it left without being fiberglassed. What year is your boat and model. Is it loose at the bottom or is the sleeve worn at the top.

If you open your rear hatch you will find that the seat mount goes thru the floor and all the way to the bottom of the boat and is glassed in there, there is a small amount of play where the post comes thru the top deck but I dont believe it is a problem unless the mount in the bottom is broken, and I personally have never seen that.

Sometimes the bushing has a tendency to get loose in the post. My did and I simply pulled it out and glued it back in with silicone rtv. Works just fine.

Mine was loose as well, (2008 Cougar FTD) and what I did was to get some of that two tone putty that Billy Mays use to hock, can get it at Wal Mart, Home Depot, and Lowes. Kneed it toghether, then rolled it out and just pushed it up around the pole inside the compartment. Has been tight since. Good Luck!JR

Its a 09 Puma. I can grab the pole from underneath the deck and wiggle it around and watch the top oscillate around +- 1/8 inch. If I put the seat in and sit, it has alot of play in it. The other seat mounts in the boat have no play at all. I have never had a seat up front and maybe twice for a coangler on the rear. No big deal, just wondered how to best stabilize it. Its not the bushing inserted on the pole, but the pole itself. The putty sounds like a good idea.

Clint,That is sleeved into the deck at top and not secured. That may be worn though the lower base is glassed to the pad area of the hull, and the upper seat post is bolted to the glassed in pin base. They are a machined fit with a screw or bolt to secure them. The top part uses the deck as a sleeve. This must be worn and need to be revitalized in the sleeve area of the post. We dont know where you are located though we would be glad to either handle that or work with your dealership to assist. Its a pretty simple task.

You got it BCB. The pole is “sleeved” into the top deck as a secure and the bottom is glassed. Now that Ive looked at it, I see that the seat (when installed) is not going anywhere…just has some play in it is all. Ill have William at Bowden take a look at it next time the motor needs a look over. Thanks for the reply.
