I really regret selling my Cat, so much so that I believe I am going to get a new one (I hope because I have a unique color combo in mind) next year. My question is this. Is it possible for a dealer to sell me a boat that I order without an engine? I ask this because the BCB dealers in the Houston area are Merc guys and I have a dealer that I have developed a strong friendship with close to my home that sells Rudes and Yamahas. I can get a very good deal on either of these motors that will save me quite a bit of money thus allowing me to buy a new boat instead of used. I love Mercury engines and I believe them to be very dependable so this has nothing to do with that. I am very loyal to my friend and I would love for him to be able to make a little money off of this purchase too but he is obviously not a Cat dealer and only sells saltwater boats. If anyone has any suggestions please respond because I am open to any ideas that anyone has. Thanks-Jason

I suggest calling William @ Bowden Marine or Mike Lott @ Big D Outdoors. If youre waiting until next year, they still wont be able to give you any specifics since youre a year model away (Sept. 08) and theres always price changes. I would almost bet that the money you might be saving on the engine will be absorbed in buying the boat without motor. In addition, either of these dealers will sell you a boat with the choice of engine you prefer.

Thanks Phil for the reply. I was very impressed with Bowden at the past two years boat shows and that is the type of company I want to give my money to. The folks at the dealership I am talking about are just like them in many ways and that is how i developed more than just a working relationship with them. As far as the engine goes, I personally dont care which of the three engines is hanging on the back. I would be just as content with either of them to tell you the truth. I just want to own the best bass boat in the world from the best bass boat manufacturer in the world and if i can help my dealer out with the purchase of the engine seperate from the boat I would consider doing so but obviously not if it is going to cost me more. I was also thinking about the service issue. There is not a Merc dealer less than 1 hour or so from me (consider traffic) unless you count BPS. No offense but I aint taking anything there to get worked on…warranty or not. I do have some time to think on it and when it gets closer i am going to weigh all of my options and go with the best deal for me. Jason
