Just a reminder to check them as part of you fall prep when putting your boat away for season(well for those of us that have to deal with snow anyway). Checked mine today and glad I did. Found one caliper (same as the one that let go last time) had about a 1/2 inch of play as one bolt was loose. Lucky to find it before it let go and did serious damage and stranded me like last time. Takes two minutes but can save you a lot of time and money.
Locktite may help that. I havent had one do that before. Ill be checking them tho
+1. It only takes one time to make you a believer in checking them
While there is no bulletin on this the issue was present on early model year trailers and a bulletin was in place by BCB, not the manufacturer. Obviously those older units were not all checked and ownership has cycled to others unaware of this potential problem. Please do check caliper bolts on older BCB trailers with disc brakes on spring axle trailers. The problem has not presented itself on the torsion axles and Vault end units.
Funny this came up just now as my 07 PII Anny is back in Dupo Marine for my second busted brakeline… This almost cost me an axle the wear is so bad. If their plan to redrill the holes (as their all hollowed out) doesnt work it will cost me an axle. All the reading I have been doing for the last 7 years and I never heard about this. Im not very happy about it either as I dont trailer far distances much at all right now and my fishing has been limited,. Never had this problem before on any other boat I have owned. I am very suprised to say the least.
The brake line should be replaced with a flex line and Dupo should be in communication with the factory for parts. We are not sure what wore on the area to hollow out? The brake line has no emphasis on calipers, axle or other parts, just the brake line and brakes. This has been discussed here many times, in the history a search will turn up those conversations.
Yes this happened to my 2007 trailer. I yard saled brake parts down the road.I know for sure I posted about it a couple years ago warning others. Wish you had seen it CFAN1. Thats a bummer. I put lock tight on ALL of the bolts when the first one came off and have not had an issue since. What hollowed out? The holes that the two caliper bolts go into? That seems strange. Hope its an easy fix. Was your first busted brake line caused by another caliper falling off?Good luck on the repair.
Mines an 07 too and a friends 07 did the same thing. I hadnt heard about it either when it happened a couple years ago but as BCB mentioned, it has been discussed but I had missed it in all my reading too. Thats why I try to mention it here as a reminder because boats change hands and new owners of used boats may not be aware of it. The guys in parts walked me through a temp repair so I was able to get under way once I could change the wheel/tire. The brake went right through my claw wheel. Boat US sent someone to change wheel (my lug wrench wouldnt fit in holes to access wheel nuts. Another tip, get gorilla wrench with socket that will access wheel nuts!) BTW, BCB was great helping me find a replacement wheel for an extremely reasonable price and free shipping to local dealer.I didnt put more Locktite on the other day but should have. BCB, you mentioned a couple years ago to use a particular type of Locktite. A heat type of something like that. I may have info around here someplace.
This is what I bought on the recommendation of tire and brake guy.Loctite Threadlocker Blue #242Medium strengthCan be removed with hand toolshttp://www.loctiteproducts.com/p/10/15/ … ue-242.htm

Dupo told me “we figured out why your busting brake lines”…Yes its my understanding its the caliper bolt holes that hollowed out. Dupo thinks all the slop/play caused by the loose bolts busted the brake line. I had taken it in for the brake line, as I said didnt know about the caliper issue. Well its definately something I know about now. Last edited by CFAN1 on November 18th, 2013, 5:48 am, edited 1 time in total.
