Home › Forums › Bass Cat Boats › Replacing Battery Trays – BCB HELP
Good Morning,I have a 97 Pantera Classic and I am replacing the old battery trays designed for a grp 27 battery, that is broken to a tray for a grp 29 sieres. I noticed when I pulled the old trays that the area where the screws went into the raised area where the batteries are placed were filled with a caulking or filler of some sort – it also looks as though there may have been a plastic insert for the screws to go into.My question is what is the proper way and materials to re drill holes for the new battery trays? My guess is that the old screw holes need to be filled with caulking so that they do not become a point of water entry; and that when i drill out for the new holes I need to fill the area with caulking prior to screwing in the screws and do I need to use a plastic tab (like a dry wall anchor) so that the screws have bite. I am not able to reuse the same hole pattern.I would like to complete this project tonight – thank you BCB and Owners.Ash
All bets are off as to what type of modification or inserts may have been done on a 1997 model, unless you are the original owner and performed all service. BCB
The trays and silicon appeared to be OG as they have the same texture and painting as all of the other screw holes – I am the second owner of the boat and I guess more importantly for me is – what is the correct way to do this install? I would really appreciate your guidance so that I dont screw it up.

I will try pete again – here are some pictures of the area
heres what i did….i drilled a hole about 1/2 in diameter about 1 inch deep. filled it with an epoxy, once that dried, i drilled a pilot hole for the new screws. put a little silicone on the screw threads then drove them in. the epoxy give you a hard medium for the threads to bite into , its water proof and….the slicone seals the threads. BCB may have a better way, but thats what i did and it seems to have worked very well.
We prefer to glass over those holes after filling them and then reinsert screws into the revised base layer. The bottom of this one looks pretty clean for the age of the boat. BCB
I am also about to replace my battery trays. The GIL trays I have now are all cracked and Its time for some new trolling motor batteries so Im going to go ahead and get the aluminum trays from BCB while Im at it. I was also considering upgrading to a 4 battery system for my 36 volt troller but then I realized that my 3 battery system has served me well for going on 11 years now so why switch. Ill stick with 3 batteries but go with the larger 31 series AGMs for all 3 batteries now that Ill have trays that can accomodate the larger batteries. Dang it, you almost have to re mortgage your home now adays to buy new batteries. Im looking at 800-1000 dollars for new trays and batteries!!! OUCH!!!Chris CoupelPaulina, La.Chris CoupelPaulina, La.

I know Phil, I battle with that every day. Its just that mine still looks great, still runs great, still lucks up on a few fish now and again, and although the upgrades Ive done over the years are substantial the cost doesnt come close to putting 20,000 dollars down on a new one and still having a 500 dollar a month note. Dont get me wrong now, Its not weather or not I can afford it, its wether or not I want to afford it. When BCB came out with the EYRA it seemed as though they were putting that boat out just for me and it hurts so bad not to have one. Itll happen one day but I cant say when. Until then Ill continue to support and promote BCB to the fullest and be one of those guys showing off how great BCBs hold up under alot of use and under tough conditions. What better testimony for BCB than to have folks out there running 10-20 year old boats that still turn heads at the launch and still outrun most of the guys to the hole. Then maybe on a lucky day take home a 1st place check in a tournament. What Im hoping to do is get Amber through college and get you to order me a new one and break it in for me over the course of a year then Buy it from you. I just cant ever, ever, ever see spending $55,000 on a new boat. I desperately want to I just cant come to terms with it. I drool over these new rigs almost daily, Hell, I even dream about them from time to time. However when I put things into perspective I just cant come to terms with it. Sorry for Hyjacking Your post Zippers. I have had a few Brews tonight and tend to rant a little when I partake in Alcoholic beverages. Chris CoupelPaulina, La.Chris CoupelPaulina, La.
