Hey guys I will be repowering my 2005 Pantera Classic. The evinrude 200 dfi finally gave up. Any thoughts on motors would be appreciated. I have Mercury,Evinrude and Yamaha dealers close by. Most guys here run Mercury. I like the idea of a four stroke but have no experience with them.

Mercury proxs will probably be the cheapest nonetec option. I blew a 200 Etec on my 09 PIV and repowered with a SHO. I loved it. Run a Pro XS now and love it too!

Not a OMC fan but usually best choice is will depend on where you can get good dependable professional service that also provide fast turnaround. Good luck. Didnt see you at Chipmans last couple years.

Id just buy a block and move on. New motor older hull doesnt make as much sense to me?C.O.D. Jr. III

I definitly think a little different than most. But IMO if your gna keep the boat I wouldnt hesitate on a repower or even a rebuild(definitly cheaperthan new). If in the future you plan on maybe updating to a newer rig and plan on to sell your repowered older rig more times than not your gna probably come out on the short end of the stick. New motor, old hull makes a lot more sense with 100% glass boats than it did with the older boats with wooden transoms and decks. The all glass boats will outlast many engines.

Id stay with Mercury , as your control / cables will work with the new one . — Personally , Id rebuild the one you have if possible , which would probably save you a boatload of cash . — Hoss

I agree with pchapin, if….if you plan on keeping boat for 5+ years or more. With the construction of your boat, a new engine will get you 5 years of warranty as well. If you have cash to burn you can do a rebuild..then when something else breaks down B.O.A.T.(break out another thousand) $$$. It can add up, been there done that.You are correct , of course , and I sometimes forget the great advantage that I have over a lot of people , which is that I do all of my own work except the machine shop part . —
