Read on BBC and just want to wish your son well. This heat can be and is very dangerous. I remember the good ole 2 a days down in the south florida summers were i could only pray for a rain shower! Keep him hydrated and cool and keep an eye on him, it takes quite a while to cool the body back down and get back to normal hyrdration levels. Jason Law
Prayers sent for your son. We hope he has a fast recovery and can get back on the field soon!
Hope your boy gets back into action soon Rick. The heat isnt anything to mess with.
Great connecting with you Rick and all my prayers for your son to recover quickly. When we spoke I mentioned using sea salt tablets. No chemicals and unlike iodized or sodium rich salt tablets sea salt is actually beneficial. Here is a link to the company: http://www.americarx.com/Products/12750.htmlAlso, for you high blood pressure readers use a granular sea salt (buy at any store these days) and grind it like a pepper corn shaker. Sea salt actually lowers blood pressure.Best to youhttp://www.vrbo.com/297770
Prayers for your son Rick!Jmtfrisco, Texas
He went in the hospital yesterday and it was nearly critical, though that is like being shot at and hitting an arm while missing the heart. He really went down hard, and recovery is just fluids and about 5 bags of solution later he was back on track. They kept him overnight and released him today. In a few days he will be back at it, and the daily muscle workout routine is on hold for now also. The post was a good opportunity on a pansy insinuation from a poster as we had just finished this with him. The trainer has two of the team strongest three down now top injury and the coach is cavitating with he losses. It will all come back together and they will be fine. Good coach, pretty good crew and a season ahead of us. Thanks for the prayers and its behind us now. Rick Pierce
Glad to hear he is going to be ok! The heat is nothing to mess with!!! I fished in a tourny sunday afternoon with 124 heat index. It took a couple of days to feel better. Not really smart on our part.Last edited by Joey on August 4th, 2010, 9:32 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Sorry to hear this, Rick, I often wander about these young guys starting out in this heat, makes me think back how we survived in the prehistoric days of no AC , just salt pills and water and coaches that didnt seem to care. Just recently, I had a bout when playing golf in this heat, was able to quit in time and get home with rest, no more golf or fishing until the temps hit 85 or less. Of course medications are not a good thing to take when in the heat. Hope my prayers have helped and great to see that hes as tough as his dad. Glad to hear he is ok. When I was 10 I fainted due to the heat once. Wasnt bad enough for a hospital visit (or was it?). That was long ago when things were looked at differently. They say when you are out in the heat, if you get thirsty, youre already getting into the dehydration stage. Drink before you get thirsty.
Rick,Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.Peace!Tom

Ward – I am addressing two seperate points; 1) Sea salt tablets help the body retain water safely without the chemicals and arbitrarily high sodium levels in the old salt tablets 2) Nothing to do with being in the heat but sea salt actually lowers blood pressure. Do a google search on all of the studies and enjoy your meals with some sea salt http://www.vrbo.com/297770
I hope he is doing well… I got to meet one of your boys and talked with him for a good while at the factory about a year ago. The kid didnt know me from adam but we got to talking about sports and i could tell right away he was a great young man.
Rick,You, your son, and your family are in our prayers. Wishing him a speedy recovery!
