So I dont know if this has been asked and I missed it or not but I would like to know how the owners of the Caracal like the rod storage in the boat along with how many rods they are able to stick in there. I looked at a new one, the butt end section looks like you can stick 15 in the locker but when I started to put some in it, well I got more than a wee bit scared about breaking rods in it. That alone might make me shy away from that boat, all though that front deck is massive. Just walking around on it with the rep on it as well I could not believe the amount of space. That being said, I had a P2, and I know what the layout on a Cougar is, so I am pretty comfortable with it. Just need to know what others think, oh and I am assuming that rod socks are a must.
I put ten rods in the dedicated rod locker. I use the port storage compartment for other rods. I dont like it that the rod locker isnt carpeted. (At least it isnt on my 2015 Caracal. Several of my 7+ spinning rods wont fit into the rod locker. The biggest guide will not fit into the tube. I dont like that. However, I really love that boat. Ive had two CougarFTDs and a Baycat. The Caracal is my favorite. Awesome room, great dry ride. Easy to drive. I could go on and on.
I pulled the tube rack on my eyra so I could get all the fairy wands I wanted starboard side. Just be sure to silicone the screw holes….that sucked.C.O.D. Jr. III
Clownshoes, I use to carry 17 all the time in the P2. 11 in the side with the divider, the other 6 in the other box. That and the oh I lost count of how many 3700 plano boxes that I stuck in the storage compartments sold me on these boats. And it is a driving factor as I continue to search for another one. When I look at the older boats, especially other brands, and hear the owners brag about how much storage their boat has, or the finish as I just cut my hand on raw fiberglass inside of a compartment that I am looking at, well all I can say is another brand is knocked off the list. That and I just nod my head and smile.
2017 Caracel- I use rod socks so the first thing I do on any boat is remove the forward tube holders, leaving the “butt end” holder in place. Works much much better that way including plenty of freedom for spinning rigs. With that said I can comfortably stack a dozen rods in my Caracel dedicated rod storage. 15 is tight. I also store another 10 or so in one of the side lockers. Last boat was a Puma. Love the deck room and the deck on my Caracel!
Lol…I get 14 in my sabre vision rod box!
I have a 2015 Caracal. I can get 16-17 in the main rod locker and there is also a rod locker next to the passenger seat that you can get 4 rods in. I keep some technique specific spinning rods in that locker as my coanglers dont tend to put rods in it. I would say you could easily put 20 rods in the Caracal with no issues.2015 BassCat Caracal225 Yamaha SHORaymarine Axiom 12sTwin 8 Red PowerPole Blades
I agree with 20 rods.I did remove the forward tube assembly from my 2015 Caracal & use rod socks.I also adjusted my “butt-end” organizer piece by rotating the bottom up so it is sitting at about a 35 degree angle and seems to allow for more room to get all my reels to play well together. I put 17 rods in there now without too much trouble. And the biggest deal is not having to move rods off the port locker to get a new set-up out.Dave.

Tak,sorry for for the delay.pics of rotated organizer. I only drilled two holes. Just remove the black part, remove bottom screws from support/backing mounts. Then rotate (drill and screw in new location) put black part back. This allows more room since most all my handles are the same length.it took as long to empty locker and prepare this post than it did to modify this.ps. The front tube organizer assembly is removed and I use Rod Gloves.Dave.
