Just got some BCB velcro rod straps and am going to install them this weekend…I want to retain the bungee strap as well. Assume I should install them in front of the rod box (as opposed to on the rod box) per the pic below?Also, should I drill a tiny pilot hole when driving the screws that came with the strap? Will the screws go through the strap and carpet clean without pulling/grabbing threads? Thanks.

I did drill a small hole before installing mine just to help. I also mounted mine where youre pic indicates, however, some have said they put theirs on the rod box so that they can open their lid and still have their rods strapped. I mounted mine on the doors, as mentioned above that way you can open the door without moving the rods. Also for the pilot hole I heated up an ice pick and ran it through the strap that way it does not fray or come unraveled. Just make sure when mounting on the doors that you will not hit the weather stripping.

Thanks guys…I like the idea of installing on the rod box lid and being able to open the box without having to unstrap. My only concern with that would be the potential for water leakage to the rod box via the strap screws…has this been a problem?

No I have not had any proble with water in rod locker since the instal of my rod straps on the lids.

They come from the factory mounted on the rod box lid.
