Hey guys looking for opinions. I noticed awhile back that the brackets that hold the bunks on were showing signs of rust. Now they are starting to look pretty bad around the bolts. Its mainly the 4 on the back and mainly the horizontal part. The vertical part of the brackets still look good with little to no rust. This is on a 2000 sabre and the trailer is in tip top shape except for this. I saw some brackets that bolt on over on BBC. Does anyone have experience with this? I wasnt sure if these were the best option but seemed like the easiest. I noticed that they come in galvanized or aluminum which would be better? Really would like to get fixed before I have an issue. Planning on changing the bunk boards as well during the repair. Thanks any help would be greatly appreciated.

I replaced the ones on my 88 model. ME being a machinist /welder I made my own. And welded them on .I bet you can call bcb and get these in raw materials from them. When I done mine Im fortunate to have a county lake close. So I just paid the launch and talk to the attendant explained wat I was doing. Pulled the trailor to a friends house and went to work. I replaced about 6 total in a couple hours as well as the boards I had ready to go on. Any reputable fab shop can arc gouge the old ones off and weld the new ones on in no time at all especially if the boat is off the trailor. If you have that option.2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
Not trying to high jack the thread. I am a believer in galvanized trailers. My last one locked as good when I sold it as it did 10years earlier when I bought it new. And thats after following snowplows speading salt in November December.Practice Angling CPRCatchPictureRelease2010 PIV 200SHO
Why replace and fab? Nothing some sandpaper, sander, primer and paint wont take care of. Little elbow grease. Plus easy access when you get your old bunks off.
Before you go through all that get a wire wheel on it and remove the rust to see what the real damage is

I was able to salvage some. The others were beyond salvage probably only a 1/8 “. Best I remember the are 1/4 new. One word of advice is if you can salvage all rust has to be remove and the best primer you can find applied or the rust will come back.2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
wire wheel is the answer you seekas stated above of course
Thanks everyone. The front and center brackets I believe could be cleaned up and reprimed. The rear brackets are flaking off so Im thinking they are about done. I agree that fabing new ones is best but I havent figured out how to get the boat off the trailer long enough for a shop to fix it. I saw the bolt on type and thought that I might could fix them myself while at the campground with access to power. I could beach the boat there while working on it. Just unsure if they will work properly.
I see youre in Texarkana. What I have done in the past when I needed to work on a trailer to replace bunks is take my boat to the marina and rent a slip for a day or two while I worked on the trailer. I see an Arkansas State Park on Millwood with slip rentals. Would serve you well, IMO.
This is most common with trailers from south Louisiana and not usually a Texarkana area rig. The deterioration mentioned can be brutal and ugly on the rear bunk area. We can supply brackets and they will need to be cut to fit your install. We also have seen folks stack the new bracket on top of the existing welded ones after cutting the top portion off. That looked pretty easy and a simple approach.
