Hi There,I am looking at a sabre ftd and would like to fit a yamaha 150 four stroke to it , just wondering what everyones thoughts are on this, my only concern is hole shot and if it fits in the maximum transom weight, main reason for this motor selection was the reliabilty of yamaha and i also have a great dealer to service the motor.Dave H.
Should perform really good, and you will save lots of money with great mileage.
The engine is a little softer than the 150 Opti on performance and is a very reliable motor. Expect upper 50s from our impression.
Bass Cat has the strongest transom on the market…………………………..that shouldnt be a concern! Good luck!
Thanks Guys , my yamaha dealer will help with trying different props…..might be able to get her to run over 60 mph , us aussies like to get that number as its 100 km/h !
No Ginny pig with the F150 Yamaha. Puts out over 165HP at the prop and is one of two of the best 4strokes built. The F150 and the F250 Yamahas are widely regarded as the most dependable, fuel efficient motors constructed. There is one in my area on a regular Sabre running 65mph.

Scott Brech said Yamaha has the F150 right up there with the 150 two stroke counterparts.
First off, TERRIFIC selection of a 150 hp Outboard, no crap if my Mom wanted a 150 Powered Bass Boat, Id sell her a F150, RELIABLE,RELIABLE,RELIABLE, did I say reliable???? Up in Eagle River Wis we Re-powered a 150 XR6 (I know its supposedly KING) on a Lead sled 400 series…….Obviously hole shot was STELLAR, the XR6 got us by 2mph on GPS, now this was a re-power not a Prop testing situation where we had Every prop and setup thought in mind, bolt on and go, and that damn Yamahammer kept up in every way…..oh and then it damn near tripled the Fuel mileage…..And wanna talk about Displacement, just look at the #s, the only 4cylinder that comes to mind being larger (New Technology) is the Porsche 944…….Get that bad boy and have your dealer set her up right and she will exceed your expectations….oh and Bama was right, the 150 Verado and 150 Yamhammer are tied with approx.165hp at the prop at Top RPM……Yes this coming from a HO Dude….Your Signature …
I have have a 2002 Sabre. I repowered about a year ago with a 150 four stroke Yamaha. I have a jackplate. I am very happy with the boat/motor combo. With 2 grown men, 36 gallons of gas, and a full live well the boat performes great. Top speed is 61 mph gps. The hole shot is a little sluggish when heavy, but is acceptable. As the load is lightened, naturally the hole shot improves. I am using a 23″ Trophy Plus prop with the standard plugs in the prop, and a ring seal. I think a 21″ Trophy might do a real good job also. I have 2 18 gallon tanks in the rear compartment of the boat. I think the new Sabres have a fuel tank arrangement more forward. That may make a difference. I am really happy with the set up. The fuel consumption is about half of my old motor(97 Suzuki EFI 2 stroke). Would I do it again? You bet.
To Hooter, bworner,Flyswatter and Bama96 thanks heaps for all your comments , i too have heard the yamie 150 punches above its weight at max rpm and with a full tank of gas, live wells full and 2 on board i can put up with waiting a few seconds to get her moving , if i can it to run 65 mph i will be very happy ( we run our boats in saltwater a lot and i think 65mph is on the cards) I currently have a yamaha four stroke that runs a max rpm most of the time……240 hours and i have only had to change oil and 2 impellers , it never lets me down even though i run it at full noise most of the time.Really good to hear an evinrude owner giving the yamaha the thumbs up too ! I am only a skinny bloke (so is my regular fishing buddy) so i think the 23″ prop should work well.Guys i really appreciate your comments , cheers
