Sabre Rod Box question

Im having a heck of a time with the passenger side rod box on my 01 dual console Sabre. Its a real chore to fit 7 rods in there. Near the front of the box there is what appears to be a structural member (stringer maybe?) of some sort that the rod tips have to go over when placing them in the rod box. I have been told by some that this obstructing piece of the boat was put there to avoid any water from making its way into the rod box, while others have told me that it is there for structural support. Would I be hurting anything if I modified it with a dremel and notched it down an inch or so? I love my Cat, but I feel that this is a poor design. I dont expect an 18 boat with dual consoles to have cavernous rod boxes, but sometimes I have to practically stand on my head to fit my rods in there. I bought stick jackets for my rods hoping that it would prevent the rod guides from hanging up. It helped a little, but its still a royal pain. Please advise. Thanks.

I always have at least one 7.5 rod in the locker. Sometimes it will catch the wires from the trim buttons, but it is never a big problem. Usually carry 8-10 rods.

Hmm? 2001 model year, hmmm? Well here it is…If you look inside the box you may notice a cross piece that was not supposed to be there. Odds are you may be able to figure that out with upside down head maneuver and a flashlight in the box. Then figure out how to miss the problem petition or figure out how to remove this. The petitions were supposed to go lengthways with the hull and there were a very few way back then that were crossways in error. Thus restricting insertion of those rods in some cases.

So….I wont be hurting the structural integrity of my boat if I remove this? Do you have any suggestions on the best method of doing so? I was thinking of using a dremel-type rotary tool.

I have an 09 Sabre FTD and have broken many tips and eyes with the same problem. How do you remove this problem??? It is a pain in the butt that I have just not chose to put on the web simple because I considered it a problem due to my choice of 7 ft and longer rods. Please advice BCB.

Thus restricting insertion of those rods in some cases.Upon further review, it looks as though this partition runs length-wise with the box, extends about 6″ past the carpet, then makes a sharp left turn and returns to the side of the boat. Is this what you are referring to in your post above? I just want to make sure Im not compromising the structural integrity of my boat if I decide to remove the partition.

That is only a dam to prevent water from entering the rod box, and it was to be placed longitudinally in the hull, instead of crossways.
