I have been looking for a used Sabre FTD. Recently YuKU brought to my attention the fact that the Sabre with a casting deck had almost as much storage as the FTD. I am still not sure of the difference. The Sabre without casting deck has 1 large storage compartment and th FTD has 2 plus the small step. Anyone with pictures or a better description of the storage space on the Sabre? Thank you.
Smbass, the picture I saw of a Sabre with the casting deck, Looked like it had 2 handles for 2storage compartments . I was just wandering if that casting, flipping, deck changes the number of compartments. By the way, I am highly disorganized and do need all the help I can get. I was looking at the Sabre FTD for that specific reason. Thanks for your input.
THe second handle is not to a seperate compartment. That just opens the casting deck so you can get through to the handle for the ice chest. No extra storage. With the flippin deck there is plenty of deck space, though.
The Sabre FTD also has elevated decks and a little more deck width.
Thanks guys, just got some pictures, and you are right about 2nd compartment just opening to ice chest. Thank you.
I have a Sabre w/ the added flipping deck. Personally like this better. The center storage is more than enough for what I use it for and the space under the flippin deck is where my coanglers store their stuff while were running. The “under deck” space is plenty for their bag and a small additional ice chest if I need it in the summer. At one time I did load the front storage as a super well organized bait storage compartment. Had so much stuff in there it was slowing down the boat. Now I use it as a day box for rain gear, net, and what plano boxes Ill need for the day. I have a few bags of soft plastics hanging from the underside of the lid. Everything else is now stored behind the passenger seat in a rear box. The difference was good enough for 4mph additional top speed. When you load a Sabre – remember its an extremely weight sensitive hull. You want your weight to be behind the consoles and as far back as possible. Good rule of thumb is 10lbs. on the bow or 100lbs. on the pad will cost you 1mph.
I have a Sabre FTD and like it better as the deck is wider up front. Here is a pic and you can see how much thinner the gunnels are compared to a Sabre.

Also, offers some advantages per Jstews storage comments. I really liked my Sabre with the deck extension. I wouldnt have a Sabre without one. Great add on. Once installed it allows for slightly more room if you like two casting bullets from the front deck. Not wider but more room overall. This is not exact measurement but my observations owning both. Owning both Sabre and now in a SabreFTD they both are great rides with highest detail and craftsmanship equal to BassCats premium boats. I cant tell any difference in ride IMHO. However, I prefer the SabreFTD because of the storage flexibility, slightly wider front deck but mostly and importantly to me the refreshed console to accept HDS8 or 998 electronics. Potentially, the Sabre should be slightly faster weighing 40lbs less. However, some will equal that out with tackle and supplies. The difference should be negligible. All the other comments above are spot on.Might be putting mine up for sale in about three months. Last edited by Flyswatter on November 26th, 2012, 2:53 am, edited 2 times in total.
