If you will be fishing with partners that weigh more than 190 – 200 lbs it might not be what you want. i have an opti 115 on an 06 Sabre and the boat is great for me. Under 7 sec hole shot and GPS 51 mph. Put either of my sons in the boat – 225 + each – and fill the live wells and it needs more power. If I were to change I would go to a 150 at least. If the 135 is a Merc chances are it weighs the same as a 150. John

If you are looking to save money by getting the 135 then make sure that you check the price af a 150. There is really not much difference. if you have a choice then take the 150 if you are looking at a boat that has the 135 on it then I believe that it will push it just fine. Not as fast as the 150 but with the right prop you will get plenty of hole shot and OK speed. ElwoodElwood…..Bass Cat Proud

I found a used boat with the 135 so I was just curious…My perfect boat would be a late 90s Sabre with a Merc 150HP…Now who has one reasonably priced????-Tim 000-28 Custom ~ EJ Strat

reasonably priced is different for each, i found a 99 sabre with a 175 for 8500 and have seen 99s with 150 for 11,000 and 12,000. lot of looking and how quick you want it. havent looked on the sale board in a while but someone was selling one without a motor- you could put what you want on it if it falls within your $$. there are good boats with decent deals out there.

We would not suggest a 135 in the present price structure, though on a used boat it would be an excellent combo. This is the same cubes as the 150, while that 115 is only a three (3) cylinder engine. The 135 is a 6 cylinder. BCB

Owned a 2001 rigged that way, when new with a 23 Trophy it was a little slow to get on plane and hit the rev limiter at times. Re-propped with a 25 Tempest and RPM went down to 5500 but gained a couple MPH and it literally jumped up on plane (1-2 seconds). Even up quickly (maybe 2-3 sec.) with two people and full live wells. Top end would be right at 60 (gps) alone and 58.5 with partner. Great boat and it was my understanding that the 135/150s had the same block, just wound a little tighter for the extra 15 horses. And during the late 90s/early 2000s they were having some mechanical issues with the 150s but the 135s were bullet proof. I know mine was! If the price is right, the 135 on the Sabre will not make you sorry. Tom
