Long story short. I got the right back corner and topcap of my new Cougar into a steel cable. Its got four or five long thin scratches on the topcap that arent into the flake and three or four more above the rubrail on the back corner. These are a little wider and deeper, but they dont appear to be in the paint. Anyone with any suggestions on how to best repair this ? I would appreciate any help. John R.

If there are scratches they are in the gelcoat. Sometimes clear can hide the scratches, though usually your in for more.

depends on how bad. in your case, take to a fibeglass shop. could be a few bucks and could be a few hundred.

Thanks guys. I looked at it closer in the shop last night. They arent as bad as I first thought. The head wrench down at my dealer does some paint and repair work. Ill have him look at it.

Give it hell with a magic eraser on one and see if you can wet sand one out without going through into the flake. If so give it heck one Saturday.C.O.D. Jr. III

BCB will know better than me but I figure its equivalent to 1600 grit wet sand?Yep- just dont get the ones with any soap in them.Heck, Id get some 1200 grit and do it wet on one, then Id magic eraser wet sand it, then liquid buffer and see if I can make it go away myself if they are small and not to the flake.C.O.D. Thanks Ward. Picked up a four pack of the erasers and tried one out when I got home. Worked great. Barely can see them unless you get the light on them at a certain angle. Talked to my mechanic down at the dealer. He has buffer, polish and said he could finish touching it up on Wednesday. Then back to Dale Hollow. Smallie times a coming.
