Seat removal

i have a 2001 cougar and need to know the easiest way to get the backs of the driver and passenger seats out to be redone.

I think you should look around toward the bottom corners of the seat backs for a small slit in the vinyl seat. Through that slit will be a screw (either a #2 square drive or maybe phillips). There may be rivets on the top of the seat, and screws in the bottom of the seats. It will help to have to bottom seats removed before taking off the seat backs. I hope thats right. There was a piece of angle aluminum on the top with a pop rivet and if you follow the seams down to about 1-2″ off the bottom you will find a cut in the thread or seam which is where there is a #2 square headed screw. I think I found 3 on the bottom back and 1 on the bottom side. You will have to stick your extension in there and “feel” for them and when you get on it then hook up your drill to remove. A 1996 is in the transition from Philips head #2 to Square drive #2 and either would be in this boat. Probably both depending on the location. BCB

Thanks for the tips. It was the square drive #2. Only 8 screws and 3 rivets total. Bondo

This is from BCBs on a previous post about replacing the seat in a 2000 model…should be similar.”Take a look around the lower section of the vinyl seat back where the cushions are seated. There will be small incisions that have a square drive screw head in there seated into the foam. I have a 1990 pantera 2 and the screws in my seats were phillip head screws. If you look real close, you can find the holes where the screws are. Also, if you push real hard on the seats, you can feel the head of the screws. I took mine out over the winter to recarpet my boat. Pretty easy once you find the screws.
