Question, anyone have any information or experience fishing Seneca Lake, NY??

Im in NY though well east of there and have not fished Seneca. I have spent time in the area with friends in Seneca Falls. Im guessing the fishing is similar to fishing Oneida Lake nearby where B.A.S.S. held a few tournaments. Id do some research there if you cant find anything else. If you need a place to stay, there is a Microtel near Seneca falls that is nice and reasonably priced. Right on a canal between a couple of finger lakes and I think Seneca is one. No docks though. Good luck.

I am in NY also, well east of there. I have fished a couple of tournaments on Seneca lake and was not impressed. The lake is very deep and does not have very good weedbeds. The primary species is smallmouth and they can be very hard to find. Nothing at all like Oneida Lake which is very shallow, has good weeds and a lot of fish. (A great lake, but subject to a lot of pressure these days.). Cayuga is a much better choice to fish then Seneca!!

Guys, Thanks for the information. Some of my colleagues at work fish Seneca each year, but only for lake trout. Thought I might tag along and do some bass fishing, but think Ill opt out and head for Champlain.

i tell u what another great lake is chautauqua lake it has monster smallies and big largemouth usually 3 pounders….i fished a tournament at onondaga this past wknd would not recommend that the fishin sucks and it just adds to the frustration when u arent catchin fish and ur smelling %%%+ all day because of the sewage but oneida is great too but can be real real tough at times

Theres good fishing to be had right next door at Cayuga lake. Cayuga lake state park ramp is around a 1/2 from Geneva (top of Seneca).Lots of good fish in this lake, and you dont have to go far from the ramp.
