I HAVE A 25″ 4 BLADE TROPHY PROP. JACKPLATE 2″ HIGH BAD STEERING TORQUE. LOWERED MOTOR 200 OPTI STEERING GOT BETTER. LOWERED 1/2″ MORE TORQUE LOTS BETTER STILL NEED 2 HANDS ON TOP END. QUESTION 25″ 4 BLADE TROPHY, 5400 RPMS, 64 MPH. IF I GO TO A 26″ TROPHY 3 BLADE WILL THIS HELP ME ON MY RPMS AND TOP END SPEED. HOW CAN I GET 5800 RPM AND 69-70 MPH
We know you are right on your engine being too high. Obviously you have that figured out. As for Propeller, we would try a 24, 25 or 26″ Fury. That choice is entirely up to you, though from RPMs posted we would go 24″ Fury. BCB
Going up in pitch with a prop will reduce rpms. Sounds like you are getting closer with the jack plate but would also like to see your rpms come up a little. Not sure lowering your jack plate is going to do that though but does sound like you need to come a little lower. Maybe somebody with more experience with your hull will chime in !! Good Luck
3 BLADE OR 4 BLADE WHAT SOULD MY RPMS BE AT WOT
I was turning a 25 trophy @ 5500 and getting 69 by myself, 1/2 tank of fuel and full livewells, with the inner plate about 1/16th” above flush. I now running a 24 fury @ 5600 and can get 71 by myself, 1/2 tank of fuel and full livewells and inner plate about 1/2 higher than outer 2 guys it drops back to 66. Everything I have read the P4 likes the motor low. From what I have seen the 3 blade and 4 blades like the jackplate set at different heights. If you have a 200 opti max rpms should 5750
Most P4 models turn from 5450 to 5750 on RPMs with Optis. Some turn more, though the bottom we would shoot for is 5450.
Both my P4s liked the engine LOW on the transom, but both were strong as well. On the 07 i ran a 26p Trophy 55-5700rpms depending on weather and load, and best speed was 71.9, tournament loaded was upper 60s all day long. The P4 will run any prop you put on her, and will eat most any pitch. I liked the 26 Trophy for the way it drove, etc,,,, The jackplate was set with the inner plate about 1/4″ lower than the outer plate,,,,,LOW. D.
The PIV does like the jack plate low and another thing that will help your performance numbers is putting most of the load in the rear of the boat keeping the front light. This will allow more bow lift there for giving you more speed and overall performance. I am running a 26 Trophy at about and 1/8 in from flush on the plates, I am turning about 5600 RPMs and with 2 and a tourny load almost getting 70 mph consistently. The best I have seen speed wise was 73.4 gps by myself and a light load of tackle and about half tank of fuel. I have run a 26 Tempest and the numbers were not near as good as the Trophy. The four blades carry the load of the PIV much better in my opion than the 3 blade but have not tried the Fury yet but hopefully I will soon and they say that you need to go down one pitch size in the Fury than what you are currently running. I hope this helps sorry to be long winded, oh and mine is an 06 PIV with a 06 Opti. Good Luck, Robbie
thanks for all the advice. will keep trying different things until i get it right. it sure is nice having all this exprience at our fingertips. thanks guys.
Im runnning a 25 Powertech 4 blade, it was a blueprinted prop and I would get 70 with 2 guys pretty consistenly, but after whacking it a few too many times on stumps and other stuff in the Upper Miss, I had it reworked and it is slightly slower, now in the upper 60s with 2 guys only hitting 70 downstream. i woudl say I am at 5600-5750 or so wide open depending on temp. I think I may have the motor a bit too high as well as it has quite a bit of torque when fast, but the performance has always seemed good so i was afraid to try and lower it.
