Im looking at purchasing either a Power Pole or Talon shallow water anchor for my 2013 P2, but im not sure which one. I like the way the Talon operates (straight down) versus the power pole that extends out & then down. What are the pros & cons of each, tend to be least problematic, & operate the best to hold you in place . Ive checked out the websites, but would like some reviews from actual owners of each. Thanks
pro pole has the advantage that you can lower the pole with the remote to get under bridges while fishing. Pro pole remote can also be used while towing to get the rig in and out of your garage. To fold a talon down you need to install the optional bracket and manually fold the Talon on your deck. Pro pole can be partially deployed to make fishing from rear deck easier for partner-Talon is always vertical.Pro pole needs space in boat for hydraulic pump-talon does not. single anchor will hold boat, but it will spin. double anchors are preferred.
I have a 12ft talon on my 2008 Puma. Like PPBASS51 said I have a tilt bracket and when I pull out my garage I tip it down. I have not owned a Power Pole But I can tell you I havent regretted my Talon purchase.Mike
I was watching a Bass show the other day and saw one of the Pro fishman in the water trying to get his power pole out of the mud. I think that one that go stright up and down would be better because you could go to the front of the boat and jump up and down to get it loose and not have get into the water.
My dealer is promoting the Power Pole (Blade) and has shown me the hydraulic pump setup for them and space is really not an issue.I fish 90% by myself so the Talon being in the way is not an issue. Most of the reviews & videos Im finding are from fishing guides that use the heck out of the power poles and prefer them over the Talon.I have to stop before I back the boat into my garage to lower the motor, so either one is not issue for putting the boat away or taking it out. Thanks for the advise and will continue my research.
Depending if your going to go single or double…the weight different even with the PP pumps are quite different with each manufacturer. The Talons weigh quite a bit more, and the total weight is set further rear vs the PP pump is in the rear of the hull, the Talon motor is on the pole itself. I have seen online where the Talon impacts the holeshot more.
i have a 12 ft Talon , other than having to manually tilt the thing, i love it!! lifetime warranty on the spike
I have had Talons on my last two Cats with no issues at all. I chose Talon because I did not want any more hydraulic lines or pumps in my battery compartment.
I was pondering the same question about which one to get. I got 2 talons and believe me, I love them. They are quiet and will hold in 12 feet. If one ever gets stuck in the mud, there is a manual way to raise the pole. Just winch it up and you are good to go. Easy to install and I also have the tilt bracket which makes it easy to get into low spaces. The only drawback I see is they are heavy. I lost a little hole shot but not enough to worry about.
As a dealer for both, I can tell you they both do what they advertise and both are great products. That being said, its going to come down to personal preference. The one plus on the Talons is that MinnKota has over 300 service centers nation wide and PowerPole service originates in Florida. Let me know if I can help.JohnJones Trolling Motor Services870 773 3474Motorguide/MinnKota/PowerPole/Lowrance/Humminbird
