Well I had a Tourney this past thursday and Friday and I could not get up on plane as the Smartcraft gauge warning read that I was over-reving in neutral. The best I could do was to idle around.Still managed to finish second and my partner had lunker for the tournament. I guess it made us concentrate more on fishing then on jumping from spot to spot Motor is a 07 250 Pro-XS. Motor starts right up and idles perfectly but shutters and alarm sounds when hitting the gas. Does this sound like the Shift position switch or something worse??
Ive described it several times on this page….$20 switch ruins the day; may have excessive grease on it making it stick. Even after cleaning, mine still mal-functioned. Replacing it fixed the issue.Good luck.
Definately does and if you unplug it just to test it you can verify for sure. Just did mine this past weekend on a 2008 Pro XS 250…. not a hard job take your time and be careful on the shift linkage when you change it. Tighted nut down then back off a 1/2 to 3/4 turn it is suppsoed to be slack to allow for pivoting..
If you go to the motor link top left you should be able to locate it for your engine…http://www.mercurypartsex…c77def6d362971&sl=EN¤cy=8M0052939 that was my part number… It is with the Throttle picture and it was part # 20 but mine is a 2008 Optimax Pro XS 250 not a 2007 may be the same but you should verify.
