Shooter Wheels advice

I noticed some corrosion starting on my fairly new shooter wheels. Thy are less than a year old and have been well maintained, and I really dont think they have seen any road salt at all. Has anyone seen this before on a relatively new set of wheels? Any advice on how to stop it? Should this be a warranty item? The wheels are clean besides where this cancer is starting. and there are no scratches I can see anywhere that could compromise any sort of coating these may have.ThanksDave H

not.sureit Can rust. Its an aluminum wheel. Maybe its something that has gotten on the rim and stained.

Otherwise the clear coat appears to be cracking. Check with dealer.

It is on 2 of the wheels, both on the same side of the trailer. I have only washed them with soap and water at a coin-op car wash. I bought this 2015 Cougar used in November out of state. It was stored indoors where I bought it until December when i moved it to Florida for the winter so, has still not been home. I have about 10 days on it myself, and it is stored right by the lake at an RV park (no road time on it). There does not appear to be anything on the wheels (like gunk of some sort) I noticed this when I wiped the rims down with 303 spray detailer before leaving at the RV place the other day. Since I am not the original owner, I am not sure what kind of help a dealer could offer. I do have another issue that the boat will likely have to go to a dealer on. Not sure how BCB handles these sort of situations. The boat is less than a year old.

most of the time when issues like this arise it is because of the aluminum or paint or ? has come in contact w/ a chemical of some sort it doesnt like. probably 90-95% of all the wheels are made in 1 of 2 factories overseas. the metal we currently get is garbage compared to what we export. or so im told

It is the clear coat crazing caused by some sort of chemical or cleaner that has been used on the wheels. I had a set of facotry wheels on an old Corvette do the same thing. Mothers makes a polish for clear coated aluminum wheels that with a little elbow grease will take away the cracks. You probably cannot get it in a local part store. Check autogeek.com

All 4 of mine look like that and much worse. Mine are 3 1/2 years old but started looking like that much earlier. I have never sprayed any cleaner on them as I wipe them with a towel when I load my boat.

Has anyone called the manufacturer. Yrs back I bought a set for a old truck I had as a teenager. They had the clear coat over a machined wheel for the shine. Needless they started flicking the clear coat. Ending up stripping the clear and using a buffer and compound to polish them. They looked better than when I bought them. But it was ongoing polishing. The clear prevents all the elbow grease.. figure these wheel manufactures had this to a art by know. Not neccesarly with the shooter wheel but some of the other wheel manufactures.
