I am currently the owner of a 99 classic with a swing away tounge. It just barely fits in my garage, slightly angled and pushed all the way back to the wall. There is MAYBE 1/2 inch of clearance with the garage door. With the angle, it creeps into my wifes car space, but she is able to open her car door and squeeze though. I am considering selling the old cat and am looking at a PII. It appears from the catalog that the boat is definitely wider in the front, and maybe two inches longer. I dont think I can angle it anymore to the side, especially with the wider front deck. Is there a way to get the PII maybe two or thee inches shorter? I thought about ordering one without (or removing) the jackplate, but what kind of effect will that have on performance? Im not a speed freak, so a slight decrease in performance wouldnt bother me, however I dont want to convert my boat into a sled. Is there another option I havent thought of?
1. Sell house and buy wife new house with a huge garage. 2. Tell wife she needs a new car and then buy a smaller car. 3. Sabre FTD w/ 175 Mercury Optimax 175 Pro XS! 4. P2 w/out jack plate. Wont hurt performance that much and you dont care anyway.
Not sure what is on the back side of your garage wall but a couple of my friends here in Ponca Ciy, Ok had the same length problem and we found a awesome cure. Neatly cut a hole a little bigger than a door width and extend the back of your garage 3 feet. Put Sheet rock or panelling on the walls then tilt the motor down and back the motor into the hole. The key here is make it neat looking and usable by adding small shelves in it to hold your oil, wax, and fuel additive so it not only lets your motor slide into the cubby hole but it is a awesome storage for the boat extras…… Do remember we are here in Oklahoma and we are a little on the red neck side at times but if you take time and do it like we have they look great and make great storage cabinets. If the back wall does not have a room behind it like a pantry or something but is an outside wall like on one of ours here we made the extension as mentioned then on the outside used matching siding and angled the top and put shingles on it. I know it sounds cobbled up but it really does look good on the outside like a fire place cover or so.Last edited by Ok Bigbass on December 19th, 2007, 5:30 am, edited 1 time in total.
You have several options and more than one in the same rig. Your rig would do fine with a 3″ jack plate instead of a 6″ and we stock those plates. They were designed for Verado engines, though we use them to reduce tongue length also for folks like yourself. You can order a “drop back” tongue, which we customize the front yoke and shorten it all we can. These put the bow roller more vertically straight up, and thus loose a tad bit of strength and are more susceptible to bending the arms. The hull is the same length as your Pantera Classic in relationship to the front bow, and the tweaks above will be able to get you some extra room. BCB
I vote kick her out of the garage Seriously, BCB and Okie have some good ideas. Judd Lasiter
For this one, Phil definitely had the correct answer, his suggestion #1. A new home with a larger garage that will hold your vehicle, her car, AND your boat is the right choice in this situation. With interest rates as cheap as they are presently, NOW is the perfect time and what a wonderful Christmas present and wonderful way to begin the new year.
Phil had a great option Idea. The Sabre FTD is a great Tournament boat with lots of storage and with the 175 Pro XS it has the speed and performance of larger boats. I have driven and sold this combo and it is a fun rig to drive. With this rig you will make a lot of people with larger other brands carying 225 hp mad when they see a 175 passing them. Great advise Phil. Sometimes it surprises me just how smart you really are.
