We would gimbal mount it on a plate, with a RAM mount on the plate attached to the center of the console. You really dont need both units, unless you are a serious semi pro. BCB

It is preference, and that is fine if you want. Though we would use the cash from moving our Lowrance to put a Y splitter cable and puck transducer in the boat. Unless you are trying to save the unit for a new boat. Then anything would work. A 997SI is an expensive tool and we would use it and get used to it as much as we could otherwise.

To run 2 transducers through one unit, you have to purchase a switch TS2-W and then a in hull transducer. Actually the splitter cable is a recent part that eliminates that need for the switch. The transducer is a puck style which goes into the Y cable and the SI transducer is the large transom mount. The 797 comes usually with the small troller mount and it has both styles in it. You dont want that one for the console.
