Thinking about buying a SI graph for my sabre. I current have a 787C2 in the console that I would like to move to the front. My question is would a 798CSI have enough detail to see brush and rock piles or would I be better off going with a 898CSI? The 798 would fit in the dash, which is nice. If I go with a 898 how would I mount it? I like the way RedCatBCB mounted his on his PIV. http://s1045.photobucket.com/albums/b45 … PIV007.jpg Who makes this mount and can i get one to fit the opening for my sabre? Any opinions or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
I would go 898 if you can afford the difference between the two.Looks like a standard ram mount with some cosmetic work to cover up the dash.My guess is there some sort of backing behind the dash as well.
I just did something simular like that, I used some .090 aluminum on each side of the dash and a piece of .18 alumium to fill in the hole that the 797. Then used a ram mount to mount a 998, which is the same exterior as the 898. For some good prices check with Brian with BBG Marine over on bassboatcentral plus he runs a cat!
Steel Sabre,We find that the 798 is enough graph for mountain reservoirs with depth, and the 800 & 900 are nice for large flats.
Go as big as you can afford. Once you start using it and learning how well each different display reads you will want to see everything up at once.I am getting ready to add an 1197 to accompany the 997 I am currently running on my dash. You can never have too much info on display in my opinion.Do what you can afford and take into consideration what style of fishing you are doing as BCB stated.EnjoyJamey
Per BassCat here is an example from my 797cSI (previous model to the 798) . I captured these pics from my 2008 Sabre. I think its impressive. As you get more comfortable with the SI units you can record SI then play them back see what you want from the comfort of your garage or home and mark waypoints. They will be placed on the GPS map when you return to that special spot for those lunkers. Just a thought.Lay Lake: Sulpur Creek rail road bed.
That road bed has some nice ditches running along it…dont forget to check them this time of year.Nice pic.Jamey
you betcha!
i upgraded my units that came in my PII.. 798 in the dash and 788 in the front…i went with the 798 in the dash because of two reasons, one it fit where the stock one was and the other was the cost..i love it…the only thing i might change later is the front…i wish i would have went with a 798 there too…not sure how good it would work on the front…the 898 and 998 are very nice too..cant go wrong with any of them.
Graphs are tools. If I fished shallow lakes i would have power poles or such. I dont though, I fish deep reservoirs and my graphs are very important to me. I personally like the bigger graph at the console. I have actually had a graph to big up front. I had an LCX 111 up front, which is a 10+ inch graph, all it did was get in the way, but it wasnt on a cat either. BCBs advice is good. It really depends on what you think your typical scan width is gonna be. I usually run about 3 times my depth, unless i am looking for road beds or such like FlySHOswatter posted. I have rarely wanted a smaller screen, but often wanted a larger one. I currently run a 997 at the console and it does work well.britt
