Gonna do some maintenance to the hubs this weekend. Boat is a 2008 so I figure its overdue. Any special advice on jacking up the trailer? Is there a grease fitting under the center cap of the wheel? Grease recommendation?
there are grease fittings, I am not sure as to the type of grease to use. Having said that BCB says Stay off with grease gun, if you have vault hubs I believe they are on a 10 year lube cycle, but you should remove the hub and pack by hand
Vault hub kits use the UFP bearing set and you should use a bearing buddy cap with grease in an emergency. The grease for a Vault hub is thixotropic and requires a pump to fill the hub. Just carry grease for emergencies and then repack and seal it later when you arrive safely home.
As far as jacking I use hyd floor jack then place jack stand on frame behind suspension, raise front of boat as well with the trailer jack so it remains level while on stands
You should verify what type hubs you have, if you pull the wheel the vault hubs have a V on front of them. If you see plain bearing buddy do them, use a high temp grease. Hand pack them, do not use grease gun
Your hubs are not Vault, they are grease and whether or not to lubricate we would use mileage to decide. The grease hubs should be manually lubricated and not pump greased. This means breaking them down with new seals coming from BCB Or UFP for your rig. Jacking it up would be done on the axle right behind or on the spring plate. BCB
The boat only gets used about once a month and just hit 80hrs on the motor. I would estimate the trailer has 4000 miles on it at the most. How many miles should I expect before rebuilding the hubs?
