Size of PVC Coupler for Puma FTD Cup holders

There was a post here about putting PVC couplers in the floor cup holders for storing pliers, misc bottles, etc.The article says 3″ coupler, but the ones I bought today are 4″ OD. Wont fitThe cup holders are 3 1/2 inches ID—What size coupler do I need to fit this? The 2″ looked too small?Help a brutha out, please!Whitten

MikeThe couplings were for a 3″ pipe. The couplings are 3-1/2 outside diameter and ~ 3-1/4″ inside diameter. I assume they are for a 3″ pipe that is 3″ outside diameter. (Im no plumber)The couplings for the dip are 1-1/2″ inside diameter so I guess those are really for 1-1/2 pipe. Best to bring tape measure to store.I got them at Lowes. I glued the dip holder couplings to the 3″ couplings with the pvc cement using the purple primer (primer is important). They are stuck together solid.I painted them with Rust-Oleum Plastic paint.Hope that helps.

I copied that post and printed it out when it appeared, but I still dont know the right size PVC coupler. Article says 3″, but a 3″ coupler at Lowes has an OD of 4″. So, do I want a 2″ coupler, for this–the measured inside diameter of the BCB cup holder is 3 1/2 inches.Thanks for any help.Whitten

We must have been pushing “send” on top of each other. Ill go back to Lowes tomorrow and see what I can find.Thanks for the tip on the black paint. Got to match the Malibu silver consoles in my new PUMA!!Whitten

There was a section with all the pvc fittings. I found these on the same isle but in a different section. There were also green plastic grates (floor drains) for drains. Perhaps the ones you looked at were a thicker wall pipe (schedule 80?). That may be the difference.I can go back to Lowes and look exactly what type couplings they were and pos tomorrow.

After two trips to Home Depot and one trip to Lowes, the coupler that fits is a 3″ PVC, it can be found in the sewer and drain fittings section. The schedule 40 and schedule 80 fittings are to thick to fit in the holder. Black ABS fittings are just a hair to small. I also tried some reducers, that are wider at the top but found they fit a little loose in the cup holder, the straight PVC coupler friction fits very well.Thanks for the idea!Last edited by Tnbigdaddy on January 29th, 2011, 1:52 am, edited 1 time in total.
