I can not tell what the beeping sound is for because my guage has moisture in it. After warm up I started to ease into the throttle and shortly after getting on plane it started to beep at first intermittenly and then more almost solid tone. I am hoping this is not serious because I only have about 3.25 hours on a brand new powerhead. This is the second Mercury Powerhead this year. I dont know what else to do. I had good steady water flow from the engine. I let it warm up for about a minute and thirty seconds. It has been running great until just now. intermintent beep is oil alarm the solid beep is it going into gaurdian mode. Check the oil tank under the cowl on the side of the powerhead it should be full. If it is empty then make sure the boat tank has oil and make sure the top is on good and tight. You will have to fill the tank on the powerhead manually it will not refill itself from the tank in the boat if it is empty.

All audible alarms are the same on smart craft. It could be a number of things since you cant read the read out. Did the engine go into Guardian Mode……………..idle only? I suggest letting a Mercury Tech hook it up to a computer and tell you what it is. Good luck!

i am going to take it to the dealer on Monday. This Mercury is giving me nothing, but fits this year. I am not sure how much longer I can take this mess. It did not go into guardian mode that I know of. I shut it down as soon as I heard it. Trolled back to the dock.

We would not risk an issue on a new power head. You are making a wise decision unless you know what the alarm is. If it were heat, then you can not do anything anyways. Though if it were water or oil you can then. BCB

I checked the oil and there is oil in both reservoirs. It may be water in the fuel, but I am still taking it to a Mercury certified mechanic on Monday.

Alarm was for voltage according to the Mercury Tech at a dealership. Then they wanted $588 plus 2 hours of labor for an alternator replacement. This sounds like a DIY project.Last edited by Quik13 on August 10th, 2010, 10:56 pm, edited 1 time in total.

An alternator ought to be a simple fix. Doing it yourself will save you a couple hundred.

Well I feel your pain, I am going on 4 weeks for a lower unit that had the seal installed backwards from the factory. Lower went out during tourny. Cant say I have been overwelmed by their customer service.
