The smartcraft speedo on my 05 cougar recently quit reading speed accurately and never showes over 20 mph. I have never messed with any if the settings on this. Anybody else had issues with this?

Don honestly what most of us do is wish none of our motors even had speedos and that gauge function was replaced with a barometer or something useful. With good graphs youve got gps speeds as you know so the function just seems useless. Now I like things all working as much as the next guy and used to feel the same way about mine. I got over it when I realized that my speedo said my p4 would do 80 at 5600 rpms…C.O.D. Jr. III

Thanks for the input Ward……….I feel the same way about water pressure speedos. My old BP100 dash had a barometric pressure function which was nice to have…much more useful than the speedometer I rely on my GPS for accurate speed readings also. I just wanted it to work because it is there and should work…. also without the speedometer working, the distance traveled function does not work. I have no idea how accurate that function might be , but it works now also.Thanks againDon

Why dont hook up your speedo to the gps and dont worry about the pitot speedo?

I have Speed reading on Humminbird 997……Thats what I look at for accuracy. Just wanted the speedo to work because its there. Something to look at if I cant find those deep water magnum spots on Lanier…….Which is always the case for me . Fall and winter OK, but August is tough !

You can hook up your smart crft gauge to your GPS via nema and have it reed that way.

NMEA the speedo and your good to go, though you will have to have your GPS on to read it.

There should be a pigtail coming out of the SmartCraft Speedo connector; similarly there is a pigtail comming out of the connector on your sonar (I think it is on the GPS cable). Cant remember the colors, except one of the wires is bare. If speedo does not work, reverse them. But first, you have to dig into the bowels of the HB menu and enable the NEMA output as previously stated.jet

Didnt realize it could be hooked up to GPS via nmea cable……Thats something I will keep in mind.You guys are always helpful……Basscat people !

I hooked up my lowrance up to my smartcraft speedo so my speedo reads gps speed. If I remember (its been a couple of years) I believe I did a search on the net and printed a wiring diagram.
