Smartcraft Upgrade on week old PII

Can I upgrade to SmartCraft Gauges through BassCat or do I need to order from Dealer? I dont think I can afford having all gauges smartcraft. I was only wanting to use the Speedo Smartcraft. Is this possible? Without having Smartcraft how will I know when the breakin period is over? Thanks

Youll have to go to a Merc parts dealer. You dont have to have all SmartCraft gauges, but the speedo wont work alone without the tach. The tach alone works but it is the main unit and all the rest feed off of it. What youll need is a blue cable with the yellow terminators on each end, a 4-port hub, and the appropriate cable for each of the SmartTach and SmartSpeed gauges. On the engine side you way also need another harness if its not already installed. Its really pretty easy to do once you figure out the exact cabling that you need. Deke[font=&QUOT]Deke[/font]

Could be an much as a grand (mostly in the gauges) if you get it full retail from a dealer and installed. Deke[font=&QUOT]Deke[/font]

Just get the Smartcraft monitor. It is a round gauge about the size of the tach or speedo that gives you about everything you want at a cheaper price. I dont know how much cheaper but I know it is some. nwacatman, go to the owners board, go to Pantera Classic, double click on Jim Hebert/Classic and take a look at my console. What you see is the SC1000 monitor that fits where the analog speedometer was. Go to the Mercury site and look up the monitor to see all of the options you get with it. I love it and it sounds like what you need. Purchase that and a cable to tie it in to your engine.Everyone should believe in something. I believe Ill just go fishing!

SmartCraft is a Mercury part and should be ordered through a Mercury dealer. Here is a link to everything you want to know about SmartCraft. http://www.mercurymarine.com/otherproducts/smartcraft/ If youre concerned about the breakin period, you can do that by your watch. You can also get close by just by monitoring the fuel use. Consider it broke in after the second tank of gas or 50-60 gallons use.

My SC1000 was less than $300.00 installed. I too think it is an excellent choice.

You might be able to run the speedo off of the SC1000 since internally the tach is basically just the SC1000 in a dedicated tach gauge. But the SC1000 will also display the rpms but in number form. If you go the SC1000 only route, all you need is the blue cable with yellow terminators at each end and the gauge itself, which besides the large round form Judd mentions, also comes in a small square form that fits in the same size hole as any normal small gauge. I dont know what youre running but I had no problem breaking-in my Opti 200 with just anologes and watch. I was suprised at how easy it was, even the break-in period isnt all that restrictive on how you run the motor.
