SmartPhone with good camera

I have an HTC smartphone which is at least 3 or 4 years old. My problem with it has to do with taking photos in the boat with bright sun. It is difficult to even see where to push the screen button, especially for other folks. So, am looking to buy a new simple smartphone with very bright screen to be seen mid-day. Can anyone tell me what to look for and, maybe more importantly, what not to buy. This may not be a boat question except the photos are always taken in my BCB which I think makes it a boat question.

I would skip the smartphone and buy an inexpensive digital camera.Probably better quality pictures and not a big loss if you happen to lose it overboard.

Ive never had issues with my iPhone.One plus, when the camera app is open, you can take a photo by pressing the volume up button… so, theres no need to try and find the button on the screen, even if you cant see it well.I think regardless of the phone, youre going to have a little trouble seeing all of them during the day with bright sun, and sunglasses on. I doubt that one brand is really going to be any better than the other.But I agree with Tpop… a cheap digital camera might be a better option. The 8 MP in the iPhone takes some great pictures and videos. Plus having this on your phone makes it handy to send them anywhere in a heartbeat. I just came from a dumb phone to smart phone in February and didnt realize all what I was missing. I was ready for an upgrade and went to a iPhone 5C for $44 at Sams Club.

I have an app for my iPhone called KeyCam. I can set it on a timer to take a picture or set it to when I “clap” it takes the picture. Ive found I can just the word clap if my hands are full. I can either set it down and get in front if I want to take a picture of myself holding a 10 lb bass (hasnt ever happened yet) or set it to clap in the shade and then dont have to worry about seeing anything in the sun.

Were still hanging in there. Still running the 97 Sabre. Had to put a new powerhead on the Merc a few years back but other than that the boat is holding up well. Just ordered a replacement dash for the BP-101. Maine winters played havoc on the digital dash. Hope to make a few more OIs before we get too much older. Wishing everyone at Basscat a great year. IPhone with a LifeProof case. Exceptional camera. I bought a suction mount for it on sale and keep it mounted under the dash. Easy to reach, out of the elements.You can even buy a “floatie” to fit around the LP case.
