Ranger, Stratos, and Triton names now owned by Bass Pro Group. Interesting , what direction do you think this will lead ?
The boys here better buy a few more cameras to be putting all the new boats up on FB with
That puts Ranger, Stratos, Triton, Nitro, and BassTracker under 1 roof. Ranger, Triton, and BassTracker aluminum boat lines under 1 roof. Wondering whether they jettison a couple of lines, or not. Ranger, Triton, and Nitro are safe I would think. Stratos maybe not so much.Im wondering if theyll keep all 3 aluminum boat lines.Another reason Im glad Im in a BassCat.
This opens Up some interesting questions for sure.
I am not convinced that this will be good for the Ranger boat brand. Mr. Morris we know is a good businessman, and, being such, he is likely to leave the day to day operation of the Ranger plant intact. As far as the dealer network, we will probably see some changes there with BPS in the mix and Cabelas, a major BPS competitor, out. Whether the quality will be the same, or deteriorate, only time will answer. However, my sense is that a lot of present and future Ranger owners will not want to run a boat brand associated with BPS and Nitro. I have already read a few posts over on BBC from some owners who are not happy with the acquisition at all. That could mean more sales of other brands, of course, including our BCB. Just me thinking out loud here.
Guys, Im originally from Flippin, Arkansas and tournament fished from a Ranger from 1979-2008. When Forrest sold the company the quality didnt go down but things certainly changed. New management was almost impossible to work with. Ranger is an iconic brand and Johnny Morris being the new owner should keep it that way. Stratos was a late comer to building boats and was always a secondary brand to Ranger and BassCat. There is a need for lower cost boats because not everyone can afford a premium brand like Ranger or BassCat. If the new owners have more than one brand in the same price range, one will probably go away. While I tournament fished from a Ranger, my personal boat was and is a BassCat and I woudnt buy anything else now. Does anyone know how many owners Triton has had?Last edited by Wizard on December 12th, 2014, 10:40 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Posted by Rick on another site:Folks, We dont know how this effects anything at this stage of the business. We believe it will be three (3) to five (5) years before any effects are seen publicly, be those positive or negative. The folks at Ranger/Triton continue to have our respect and Johnny Morris always has had that respect. We have an opinion on both companies knowledge and practices in this saga, though it will be withheld. There is a hole left by this and opportunities will be there to be had on all four corners and all four sides of the table. Ours, vendors, theirs, dealers and each others side independently. We advertised in some of those early Bass Pro catalogs and have two hard back 70s series years as appreciation for those advertisements. Years ago Johnny and Dad hooked up and road traveled a few times years ago. They were friends and yes I have been in that first Bass Pro Shops store as a teen. Ray Scott tried to replicate the concept with The Outhouse and he even went on in the late 70s to try selling aluminum and fiberglass (Hydra Sports) boats in his publication. Johnnys concept, frugal practices, marketing concepts, private labels and especially his early on attention to small detail has set him through time past all challengers. Replicating Cabelas style and taking it to another level. This move will be seen as the greatest thing since sliced bread by some, and hash by others. We feel its the biggest news since BASS was purchased by ESPN in our industry and the whole outdoor industry. Guns, gear, tackle, ammo, organizations, by any and all aspects we know this is a huge outdoor industry move. Rick
