what are you guys using for a lock on the spare tire? I assume it is a cable type lock? thanks

Hey Jim, You are right on. I use a plastic coated cable type with a built in lock that is also plastic coated. It has been on for over a year now and has stood up to the elements well. I got this one at Wal Mart for about $15.

I also use a thick braided cable, but like the Master lock idea. After a few years, I rotated one of my road worn trailer tires to the spare location in hopes that any would-be thief would be less attracted to snatch a substantially road worn spare tire.

If you use the lock I posted above it is worth it to spray the key hole with WD40 once in a while to keep all the grime from building up in the key hole. That is the only negative to that lock.

I use the same Master lock that Judd mentioned. It works well, and you dont have the ugly cable running around the tire. I bought mine from BPS. KentKent Charles 2002 Pantera Classic & 200 Yamaha VMax
