Good Evening, My wife had to work Christmas Eve, so I decided to hit the water. Bear in mind that here in South Louisiana, temps started out in the 40s and worked up to low 60s. Quite comfy for December, eh? I was able to stretch out the legs on my Cougar 225HO ETEC rig in the perfect conditions for it. I hit 78mph sustained. My previous best was 77mph. The Raker II 28 pitch seems to be a good fit for it. I must have one of the rare jewels of a Raker from what I have read about their substandard quality. Mine has a great hole shot, excellent bow lift and solid speed. The HO is faster than I ever expected. Best I thought I would see would be 76ish. NOW FISHING was even better! I caught 77 Bass and 4 speckled trout fishing from 9-2:30. Talk about hitting a major feeding frenzy! Now that was an awesome Christmas present for me.Happy New Year!!! Dan
That is a wonderful day on the water! Have you tried a 27 to 29 Tempest on this rig. The larger diameter would do well on most E Tecs and this hull. BCB
That some sick speed for a 225. Nothing beats a great day on the water in the middle of winter.
Great Job Dan. Im glad youre getting that Cougar up and running right. Also a great day of fishing too. Ive been slamming them in the Spillway but it looks like Im going to have to slide over to the marsh and try my luck. Take care buddy. Chris Coupel Paulina, La.Chris CoupelPaulina, La.

Hey Yall, Catching bass has been hard for me this year….especially considering the down-time I had in the middle of the year waiting to get my new engine. Since Hurricane Katrina our south Louisiana fishing has been a little tough. However, they are starting to make a come-back with those 10-12 inchers. This made for a very special day indeed. Shap….the marsh fishing is hit and miss, but lately the hits have been good when you find them. Theyve been stacked up in some places. Now…as far as the props go, I definitely value your advice BCB. I am going to try and trade my spare Renegade and spend a few bucks on top of that to get me a 27 Tempest. I wish they made a 28, because I am seeing straight up 5800 with the Raker. Do you all think that the 29 would be too tall for me? That would probably drop me down to 5500 and I think folks have recommended that this engine be run to the 5800 mark. All in all, I love my Cougar. This 99 model still looks great and I still get loads of compliments. Now that Ive added the 07 ETEC, shes turning a few more heads. Ive got her really loaded up now when you consider I have a Hydraulic Jack, Widescreen GPS (color), Bow LMS-240, flipping deck, Stealth DC charger, triple bank guest charger. A couple of other upgrades that I am considering are the new bucket seats and maybe an EZ ladder. Take care and Happy New Year to All!!!! Dan
Dan, is your boat a FTD or the cougar. Great numbers. pant2 Bob
Pant, Mine is the Cougar. The 99 model could be considered the classic Cougar, in that it did not have all the front storage. It had only 2 rod boxes and a large center storage box. I added a Flippin Deck to give me the extra deck. This layout was similar to that of the Classic and the Sabre for many years…no rear storage either. This boat has the same great hull as the early FTDs…and is lighter because of the lack of additional decking up front. Thanks, Dan
