I was just reading on Bassmasters about Clark Raheem picking up Kieth Combs! That is awesome! And Alton jones was mentioned as well as Rojas as not being very sportsman like last weekend, anybody know what thats about? I am very surprised about that!
I feel and see what your saying. “The excuse passionate for the sport no longer works for me!” Hes gotten worse than better. During tournaments, I dont think Ike is the role model Kids need to be watching. It will never stop until someone from the top sayss, thats enough!!! Glynn
Ike to me is a very good asset for BassCat boats. He is passionate about the sport. When you are trying to make a living with a sport like fishing and you are in the last day of the event you dont know how you would act. I dont yell like Ike does but I am not trying to make a living by fishing or in the running for $100,000.00 if I was I would be like him myself. Maybe he should not had kicked the graph but I have seen others out there breaking rods, cursing, refusing to sign autographs for kids. Ike as far as I know has always been one of the last people at the ramp talking to people and other things. So when you talk about him being bad for the sport or bad for BassCat boats you are wrong. He has had BassCat boats on the last day alot this year. He is the same person that he was and I am glad that he is a part of BassCat boats. So if you just dont like him dont single him out because he is just human like all the other guys are and not the only one that does things he may not should do.Last edited by Danny Haley on May 21st, 2009, 10:21 pm, edited 1 time in total.
There are no explanations for his antics. The situation as to whether Mike has been good for Bass Cat or not will be continually evaluated. It is just that type of image. There are no excuses for actions. The kicking we were informed of here before the show aired. So it was not a surprise. It actually was not as bad as we were told to be prepared for. The Mike Iaconelli and the “Ike” personna are different people. We wish you could all spend time with Mike for one to understand “Ike”. The folks who have been able to have one on one time with Mike have come to appreciate his real side. He is great with children one on one as well. Though we can not condone his antics. Never have and never will is what we are told. When he hits the water his entire personality changes. More goes on behind the scenes on this, though that is between Rick and Mike.
But thats kind of the deal, most people wont get to meet him or get to know him one on one. And the image he portrays, why would they want to. I dont want to be around someone who is spitting and throwing hissey fits. Learn some self control for God sake, you are a professional, carry yourself that way. I have met Mike and he is, in person, a very nice guy and easy to talk to. No heirs about him what so ever. But I cant really see how he is better for the sport carring on like that. To me he shows no appreciation for his sponsors when he tears up his stuff like that, but I guess its not an issue when you can call and get another at no cost. I get embarrassed for him. Im sure he is crying all the way to the bank, but having honor is priceless.
I believe all the guys on tour are fishing for the the number one spot and all that big money, however Todd Faircloth, Kelly Jordan,Alton Jones,Skeet Reese, MARTY STONE (BCB BOY), dont act like a fool while on camera. Im ok with the passion of winning, but to act like silly azz idiot is a lil to much for me, I think he belongs in Bass Tracker & not one of the worlds best, BASS CAT. Just my opinion.
I had the pleasure to meet Mike at the OI. He was a great guy to visit with, very down to earth, and extremely approachable. My son visited with him and he snapped a picture with my wife. My best friend read his book and told me a year ago that that is a role hes playing for BASS. I really wonder how much that BASS is wanting to create personalities. How about Ish Monroe with a deep voice hollering- “Come and get you some of this” – then see him on Yo Ish and wonder if theyre two different people. I see the yelling and antics as an act or personna that he puts on for the camera. I cant stand his hijinks on camera, but I know that person is not the one my family met and likes. I wonder how responsible BASS is for these personas in an attempt to create personalities and build the sport. Im no fan of the personna – but how about Rumbanis and KVD almost going to fists at Lake Dardanelle over the same fishing hole. How about all of Aaron Martens whining and fussing with the locals over a fishing area. There are a couple of shows a year with him whining. How about Aaron and Byron Velvic fighting over the same fishing location last year. Skeet Reese used to be the king of arrogant – but now hes every mans man. These guys are fishermen- just like you and me- with better fishing instincts. Theyre not actors. Fishing is not very entertaining to watch. Why do they act like they do. Who is coaching them behind the scenes?
personally i like him ive got to meet him and i have alot of passion for this sport also i just turned 16 this may and i get pretty upset when i lose a fish even if im fun fishin my dad has 2 lik calm me down sometimes because i cant quit thinkin bout it but i think its just a matter of controlling ur emotions if u lose 1 owell u aint gonna catch em if ur standin around spittin and poutin get ur bait back in the water and catch fish theres nothin u can do when its over so just deal with it ur having a bad day lol but i thinkit just comes down to how people can control their emotions but all in all i think hes a good guy no matter what
To all those who condone his “passion” look at it this way. Lets compare another high stakes, high pressure job to Ike. What if the New York City District Attorney lost a big high profile trial, would it be appropriate for him to lay on the floor and kick and scream because he lost? We all know the answer, he would be fired by night fall. Why do we accept this in our sports or entertainment figures? Professional is professional, act like you have been there before. Ike is not the only pro to show his butt in public, Ish Monroe comes to mind as an Ike wannabe, and Gerald Swindle. Again why do we as fans accept this as being passionate and not just no class immaturity?
So some of yall have met Ike! Some of your kids have met Ike! What would you say or do if your kids threw a tantrum on the baseball field, basketball court, or in a fishing boat anything like Ike?
You mean Alton who got dqd a few years back only after he was threatened with a poly and Alton that went by a Bcb members Marshall that was floating outside a lock? Dont be surprised.Last edited by clownshoes on March 24th, 2013, 1:16 am, edited 1 time in total.C.O.D. Jr. III
What happened with Rojas and Jones ?
Rojas fishes spot for day 1,2 and doesnt see Alton coming in later. Final day? maybe saturday alton gets there first by 30 seconds and doesnt do the usual thing of yielding to the leader. Shocker.C.O.D. Jr. III
Did Rojas call him out on stage ?
I see! I guess I need to go Marshall an event or. Two to get the real look!
