Hi all. I have a 2008 Sabre and when I stand on the bow deck near the pedestal base there is a loud squeaking noise. There are two bolts holding down the pedestal base to the deck, those seem tight. Has anyone come across this issue before, its pretty annoying…Thank you for any advice
It is a issue some are having. Not sure why this isnt getting fixed. I have a 2012 pantera 4 and mine was doing the same thing. Another guy with a new pantera 2 had the same problem. Dealer fixed it with a bolt. BCB can explain more. Not a very hard fix.
Can you tell if the squeak comes from the pedestal plate on the deck or does it sound like its coming from under the deck? That plate seems more likely, because there is a post that is glassed from underneath the deck to the floor/stringer/hull that supports the seat pedestal – or at least I know thats how they used to do it. Most bass boats arent glassed together like that and the seat bases fail on older boats where you dont hardly ever see that on a Bass Cat because the post is glassed top and bottom and ties the deck to the floor/stringers at that spot. I bet its an annoyance, but as JeffNaish said I bet a bolt tightening up that plate fixes it. Hard to believe it could be anything structurally going on.
I am not talking about those bolts but you explained how the deck/base is made well brightwork. The resin that holds the plate in place busted lose causing the base to rattle and make noise. The dealer had a guy stand on the front deck and drilled a hole through the post and then put a bolt through it. BCB can explain this more. 90% sure this is what is wrong. Another member on here had the same thing. I am sure he will chime in. I got a pic I can text or email you showing what they done. It works.
Hard to say exactly what happened on a 2008 model. Jeffs is the other one you will find searching this site. Occasionally this has occurred fromess resin than was required to seat the upper base in the lower machined post. On yours we assume there is some stretch also as these plates to base tolerances are very tight.
greatwhite22,Here is how to see if it is the base/resin separating. Open the front compartment. Have a friend stand on the area that squeaks. You need to watch the pedestal while your friend moves on the front deck. If you see the pedestal moving, a bolt as Jeff has suggested will correct the problem. If there is no movement of the pedestal, you have a problem different than what Jeff and I encountered. As I recall, BCB prefers this to be repaired by the dealer. It is not a difficult fix, but I appreciate their desire for it to be dealer repaired since BCB has no way of knowing an owners mechanical ability.Hope this helps.
Thanks guys. Like you said- it sounds like the bottom of the plate and top of the deck has some movement and causing the noise. It looks like the plate sits on top of the deck and then the carpet sits on top of that. Ill get a buddy to press down while i look to verify. If you could send me a photo of the repair i would appreciate itkeys1542@gmail.com
The factory would drill the top base and reset it by adding more resin into that base, though this is simple for them and harder for you. Thus a Ubolt is the factory suggestion in a field repair. It is very uncommon to have this much travel on the upper and lower base as they are resin loaded and usually solid below that. A UBolt should be on the upper portion of the lower stem post that is mounted in the boat. Drilling and a bolt will work also, its just more time consuming.
So the noise is Not coming from the area where the plate meets the deck. Its coming from the post where the upper part is sliding down into the post just enough to cause the noise. Check out he photo
VERY Nice Picture! Yes, That is the area in question! BCB
