Rich12, I hear you and I know why tires on vehicles are balanced. My question was more to BCB as to whether balancing the specific Stalker wheel was a concern. In 35 years and 8 boats from 6 manufacturers none have had no factory balanced wheels. None of my friends have had balanced wheels so it seems more an industry standard of sorts and not a choice that we “people” are making that balancing is not needed.
Balancing will certainly save on wear from vibration. Vehicle tire life will be determined by tread wear and trailer tires by years of UV exposure and simple degradation so maybe the costs of balancing are skipped in the latter case. I will put 30-40K miles on my vehicle a year but maybe 2-3K a year on my trailer. All my trailer tires are replaced with much of the tread still in good shape but the tire is more than 5-6 years old. Not saying it makes sense to skip the balancing but I am not an engineer but neither have I had any failures that would seem to be related to non-balanced tires. I was not trying to fire up the whole wheel balance and shock absorber debate. We can save that one for another day this winter when we are all bored with nothing else to do:)
Thanks BCB for your feedback.
