I have a 1998 Pantera II with the electronic dash. The starting motor battery needs to be replaced. Are there any precautions when disconnenting/reconnecting the old and new batteries?Also, it has a 12/24 volt trolling motor set-up. If I need to jump the starting motor from the trolling motor batteries, do the jumper cable terminals hook-up just like car ( one battery to one battery) or do I hook one trolling motor battery positive terminal and the other trolling motor battery to the negative terminal?Thanks for any help.Joe T.

Joe, I have a 95 Pantera II and just replaced my starting battery.I have the old electronic dash, but it still works fine. When I changed out my starting battery, I had to remove it for a period of a couple days. I didnt lose the engine hours. (Dont know about any other engine history related features).One tip though, I would take pictures or label the wires that go to each terminal. This way hooking it back up when youre in the driveway or on the water is stress free. Dont know anything about jumping a starting batt off of the trolling batts. Im all ears though….

newbcbowner,Thanks so much for the info. I kinda figured there was more to changing the battery than just remove and replace.How did you find out you needed to remove the old dash?

You dont have to remove the dash for a battery replacement.Just yank the old battery, drop in the new battery, and re-hook up the batery connections.The dash wil hold the engine hours in its memory.

It does go back to default settings and you will have to reset the timers and clock.
