Steering issue recently.

Driving down the lake and I notice to keep the boat straight I have to keep,turning left. Im guessing during this long run I turned the wheel left 3 or 4 full rotations and we were basically just going straight. When we stopped to fish, with the boat at idle, I turned the wheel full left and right and it seemed fine and there were no issues the rest of the day. What checks can I perform at home to ensure system is functioning properly? Any help would be appreciated.

That sounds like a helm or pump issue and not a cylinder issue.

I believe the helm is the pump on these units . — Sounds like something got stuck in one of the valves , holding it open slightly , or you have a small amount of air in the system . — By turning it lock to lock you probably forced whatever it was out of the valve , or forced the air back to the reservoir of the helm . — It may never be an issue again , but then again , who wants to take that chance ?? — Have it checked out by the professionals would be my suggestion . — Hoss

You have air in the system, probably low on fluid. Ive had the same issue. Will only do it under a torque load when on plane. Just bleed the system.

Just bleed the system.I HIGHLY recommend you find the leak and fix it first , if there is one . That air had to come from somewhere . — Most leak at the ram itself , which is an easy fix .

steering cables were to easy. good high quality steering cables worked fine. seals when out on mine within a year and half. hydraulic steering will get someone killed.

LOL !

Called Rockwall Marine and was given some of the same advice, will have it professionally serviced soon. As usual, thanks for the advice.
