Have a 2008 Basscat Cougar FTD. My stern light has appeared to have gone out. First thought my light just went out but still would not work when I bought a new one. Any trouble shooting advice on where to check first.

If you have a tester turn the switch on and see if you have voltage to the pins. You may also want to look and make sure a wire hasnt come off either at the stern light of the switch.

It could be wiring or a panel. Though on Nav lights it is most frequently the wiring to the base. They are prone to break off a lead on the underside, or have a connection issue. BCB

Worst case scenario youll have to drill out the rivets from the light base and pull unit to check the wires. But probably just pins need spread a bit and cleaned/lubed. good luck, D.

If no multimeter, use a knife blade/small screwdriver and spread the pins in the light socket, then try new light or bow light. You may have to force the light down a bit,,,,,, If no power check all connections at the terminal block in the rear, on the transom so all are tight with no corrosion . After all that you are down to drilling out rivets and removing the light base to check connections there.

Take the Stern light pole and plug it into the bow light. If it works, then the problem is with your stern socket. If your bow light is working, you can also try plugging it into the stern socket to verify as well. New sockets are $10.50 per, and new stern light pole is $20 from Basscat store. The orginal sockets are riveted in. Pretty easy to drill out, and install new sockets. http://www.basscatstore.com/lighting.aspx

Could be a wire came loose. If so, not need to replace the socket, just reconnect the wire. They are easy to pull and check, just drill out the rivet. Good luck.

Had the same issue on my 07. I was able to pop just the black plastic socket out of the bottom of the chrome mount. Turned out to be the internal connection to one of the pins. I bought an exact replacement socket and rewired it using just the back plastic socket and the original chrome mount.Just another option if you dont want to drill the rivets.

A few things to check:1. Yes, plug front to rear or vice versa.2. Use the bow navigation switch to eliminate the dash and wires from dash switches.3. Ground wire from the terminal block on the transom4. Check power leads from dash and at socket wiring with voltmeter. 5. Check power at dash switches or A Ten for power when switched on. 6. Remove plug on rear of A Ten dash and reset computer board, reboot basically. 7. good luck!
