Storage Compartments wet

I love my Caracal, got it about 3 months ago. Had it in some bigger waves and some rain this last weekend and discovered, day box inch of water, storage on port side front really wet, middle rod box water standing, storage behind driver really wet. So need to prevent it in the future, appreciate help. Thanks

The sump is not being drained by bilge pump and the water in the sump jettisons to the bow. Keep the sump bilged. Also check location on the buoy marker slot drain as some may be draining into the rod box on one finish person who drilled the opposing side. We found a couple of those draining into rod areas.

I will show your info to my dealer tomorrow, I’m glad I opened the boxes when I got home or I would have had a real mess…I’m a little bit mistified that there was as much water as there was in the storage compartments. I haven’t looked at storage under the seats, better do that

The underseat storage does not have a similar area the sump can spill into. Those must get water over the top.

Check all your latches to make sure they are snugged up, you should not be able to spin them at all. I had a few loose ones. Pour water into your front cup holder at the bow, and look to see if water enters your center rod locker, some times the drain tube comes off and or becomes misrouted. And keep your bilge dry, on take offs its a good practice to click the bilge on for a second or two, and leave it on auto. The water can rock back and forth in the hull and splash to the bow, the rod locker is not fully sealed at the nose. Even with being very careful letting the boat down, I still get some water entry over the back though my cable harnesses and power pole grommits, it adds up quick.

I too have a Caracal and fished a tournament a month or so ago in the rain. I drove to the lake in heavy rain, fished all day in the pouring rain, and drove home in the rain. All my dry storage was dry. Not a thing was wet that I had not taken out of a compartment for some reason. All I did was keep the auto bilge on and every time I was ready to move I would hit the manual bilge to get the water out. I also removed the plug before I headed home. I was impressed with how dry things were.

Look at the 2 screws on top the latches the hole the screw head resesses into has a little plastic gasket mine were all jacked up hanging out and was allowing water in through there. I just put dabs of silicone on top the screw heads we will see if that works.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
