I have Mercury Quickleen in my gas, will this work as well as Stabil for overwinter storage, or do I also have to add Stabil? Boat will be sotred from today through beginning of April. Also, the main tank is about 1/3 full, and the saddle tanks are empty (or at least as low as they will go before the engine stalled. What is the recommended storage levels of gass in the tanks? Is empty OK? thanks for any answers
Mercury recommends Quickleen, and others use Stabil. We never use any here ourselves, though we should on occasion. There will be a diversity of opinion. BCB
I prefer to store my tanks full with stabil added. Storing with full tanks limits the amount of air inside the tanks. Moisture is present in the air, and the more air inside the tanks, the more condensation will occur. So, full tanks equals less chance for condensation. Any chance to keep water out of the tanks is a good idea in my opinion. KentKent Charles 2002 Pantera Classic & 200 Yamaha VMax

Kent Ive heard that theory, then also heard the theory of the more gas you store in the boat, the more OLD gas you run through your engine in the spring. Thats the problem, competing theories.
If you are using the appropriate amount of stabil, shouldnt the gas be fine in the spring. I believe that the bottle says that the gas can be stored for up to 2 years with a double dose of stabil. KentKent Charles 2002 Pantera Classic & 200 Yamaha VMax
Quickleen is for fuel system cleaning not for fuel stablization. You should add Stabil or Mercury Fuel Treatment along with Quickleen.
Just bought some of the new sta-bil with ethanol treatment. Has anyone used this yet??? I am concerned that all the pumps here in Arkansas say “gas make contain 10% ethanol” I am planning on using this along with the mercury quickleen. Will this be ok?? RWP
Mercury Quikleen is not a stabilizer but a conditioner; therefore, it is not adequate to use for storage. Mercury makes a separate product for stabilizing your fuel for winter storage called “Fuel System Treatment and Stabilizer.” The part # is 858071Q01. This is a better product then Stabil – in my opinion. In regards to how full to fill your tanks… one guy said to fill them up so that there is less air and it will prevent condensation. Another said that if you fill it up there is more “old” gas to burn in the spring. The ironic thing is that they are both correct; however, if you use a quality fuel stabilizer, like the Mercury product listed above, you should not have a problem with condensation so no need to top off your tanks. I hope this helps you. Let us know if you have any further questions. Go with what Andy says above.
Andy, With all due humility and respect—I know your family name around the marine business, and hold it in high regard—what evidence do you have to say that the Mercury product is superior to the Stabil/Ethanol product. Again, I mean no disrespect here in any way—just wondering what leads you to your opinion. Thanks, and best regards, Mike Whitten
