Anybody on here installed a lowrance structurescan transducer on their boat? Im thinking of getting one and wondered how hard it is to install and where might be the best place for it. Im thinking Id like to put it on the jackplate somewhere (I have a detwiler) so I wouldnt have to drill any holes in the boat, but not sure where or how. Anybody have nay experience with this or have advice on it, Id appreciate any input.
Call Scap and Shirley at Transducer Shield and Saver, they should have a jackplate mount for you. This is mine on the Slidemaster jackplate.
Heres a pic from my puma its mounted to the transom in between the JPHeres a pic from my P4 where i had it mounted on the JP.
I have a suggestion for mounting transducers to the boat with out drilling any holes.get a fiber block (dollar store food cutting board) cut a strip that will fit where you want to place your transducer use a marine type of flexable adhesive (goop is a product that I used ) to mount the fiber block to the boatnow you can mount the transducer to the fiber block and not the boat hullYou might want to test the security of the fiber block before you place the expensive SI transducer on it.On my other boat (sportfish Chrestliner) I mounted the side imaging transducer bracket on the transome with the adhesive only. Three years of pounding the boat and its still solid .That brings me to a question. How fast can you go and still use the SI?I could get a desent image at 15-20 mph in the ChrestlinerWhere the transducer is mounted on the kitten I cant go 5mhp before I loose everything. The best place I could see is right by the starboard tiedown :-(With the high use of SI bulky transducers I am surprised that there isnt a special mounting area designed into each vessel Thats my two cents, which doesnt mean much now that we dont have pennies here in Canada anymorePractice Angling CPRCatchPictureRelease2010 PIV 200SHO
Dwaynes method is a common northern technique to mount electronics to transoms. They tend to keep their boats longer and then upgrade electronics as these develop. If you use the TSS system then there is no reason to mount starboard or plastic board to the transom.
in the pic of the p4 it looks like you went thru the jackplate..or did you screw it to the jackplate? and if you did what screws did you use..because i liked that way and may do that myself. thanks
I have hydraulic detwiler jackplate, and the metal is very thick and the range of travel wont let me mount it in the middle, that I can tell. May have to go with the cutting board technique. How thick was the board that you used?

schusker, We prefer the Transducer Shield Saver tapped into the outside of the jack plate and the Shield Saver goes to the Detwiler bracket that mounts to the plate.
I mounted mine on the trolling motor with the Lowrance SS-TMB bracket. With a 101+ lb thrust TM on high you can get 2.5-3mph which is enough to give a decent scroll image so long as you are rock steady to hold it in a straight line. With practice you can also SLOWLY and STEADILY pivot the TM head and get a decent left or right scan of a point. Just keep in mind that the opposite side is 180 degrees and not parallel. Its actually kinda like a manual version of what the new Humminbird 360 down imaging does but only as a single pass.It works on these steep and deep highland reservoirs near my home just fine but if my home lake was a shallow rocky lake with an appetite for trolling motor mounted transducers like Dardanelle, Id think twice before putting $200 in such an exposed place. I also added a Rig Rite metal trolling motor transducer bracket in front of the structurescan transducer for some head-on protection too.
