Like you, I have been on a tight budget for an older rig. I actually bought my front fish finder used off of Bassboat Central. The down imaging is different than side imaging, so it would not be affected by the trolling motor, turning. Maybe by high speed, but the down imaging is directly under.Eventually, I will move to color, but I am satisfied with my Matrix 37 on front and 580 gps/combo on the console.Lowrance has always been a strong name and Garmin has a niche following.
