Topic: Suggestions on replacing 2005 Evinrude lower unit

Have a 2005 Evinrude HO direct injection with bad L1 lower unit (Im told pinion gear broke and then things got worse from there denting the outer casing). Im considering getting a remanufactured lower unit (~$2000) vs a new one (~5000), both with 1 year warrenty. I know I dont want another L1 lower unit as the water pick ups clog so easily running these weedy lakes here in Florida (my mechanic tells me I have the worst possible design for running the weeds). Im told an L2 would be better and Im looking at the new etech lower units with the water pick ups in the nose cone which be even better (I believe) but it would only be available brand new and would be a little more work for them to make it fit. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks

Spoke with guys at riverside this am on a other topic. They can make whatever lower unit you want in any ratio you want. Can get l2 or sle or m2 in 1.86.C.O.D. Jr. III

Thanks for the suggestions. Ill talk to my mechanic here about it some more. I think at this point Im much more concerned about running in the weeds than the fastest possible top speed (tired of climbing to the back of the boat with a toilet brush to get it unclogged!). Called Riverside this morning, they said I could get the M2 for around $3,200. Thats probably what Ill do.

Josh and the guys do a good job. Not at all your average bear. Ill bet there are 200 lower units and parts in that warehouse. Not to mention blocks and parts.C.O.D. Jr. III
