Im wanting everyones opinion on the best fishing sunglasses for the money. I lost my Costas in the lake and they were 250 bucks! I dont want to spend that much on glasses again. They had great lens and suppose to be scratch free but they were not very comfortable. I tried on some Wiley Xs and they were very comfortable but a couple guys told me that they scratch easy. What are your thoughts? Thanks
Best frame is the straight jacket. Blocks the most sun from behind the lens. I run the fishing specific shallow blue for cloudy or over cast days. The deep blue for sunny days.
This may not help but Ive got to throw in a plug for costa del mar 580 green mirror.
Strike King has spent time on lens design as has Vicious. Either company has good sunglasses for the money. Both are long standing sponsors of the Bass Cat Invitational and the choice is yours! The Costa glasses are good stuff also and Maui Jim lenses work well also. Of course BCB goes way back to Hobie glasses offered many years ago. BCB
I stopped buying expensive name brands (Oakley, Dragon, and Spy) a couple of years ago. My current fishing glasses are Igogs from Gander Mountain and BPS pair from Bass Pro. Each pair was no more than $25 and both have better lenses than my Oakleys. I say, and have done, go try on anything and everything until you find some you like regardless of the price. There are very few inexpensive pairs I like but when I find them I buy them.
I recently asked this question to Elite Series angler Chris Zaldain. I know sponsorship is a big deal to those guys so I took what he said for what it was worth. He said, for the money, the Strike King S11 glasses are excellent. I mentioned a couple of other more expensive brands that I was looking at and he told me that if I wanted to spend more money, look at Kaenon. “They have the best polarization and scratch resistance period.”I have also looked at Amphibia glasses because they float and I have several friends that recently lost their expensive glasses. That being said……three new pair of Strike King S11s just arrived Saturday. I got two different models and two different colors of lenses to try under different conditions. Just tried them on and they feel great. Hopefully Ill get to try them out on the water this week. I have been very very pleased with the Strike King S11 sunglasses. I abuse the heck out of them and still no scratches on the lens or broken frames.
I went with MJs this time after wearing Costas since 2001 or so. IMO getting a pair that fits well is the key, I really think you are better off getting fitted. That may cost a little more but your eyes are worth it. Plenty of good glasses out there.
I wear glasses so have bought Coccoons to go over the prescription glasses for years. They hold up well and are comfortable. They arent going to set any style trends (think old Florida folks glasses) but they have added some colors so they look better. Usually $50 and they run deals a couple times a year buy one get one free or half price. I like the amber lenses and while the are pretty big frames/lenses, the size provides great protection going 70 down the lake. They see to sharpen the view too.
Thanks for all the replies. Where can I find the S11s? Id like to try on a pair
I found some on line for $40. They look good
I like my Oakleys. A few years ago, I dropped a pair of 200 dollar fishing glasses that were about two weeks old into the lake. Since then, I use a floating lanyard so that will not happen again. I have heard nothing but great things about the Maui Jims, but have never tried them.
