First, I hope everyone is staying safe from COVID-19.

I know that this board is mainly for boating, but there are some very knowledgeable people here so figured I’d seek some insights on swimbait rods.

Just relocated to SoCal from NJ and want to go after bigger fish so I’m doing research on Swimbait rods. I’m going to be throwing some bigger Huddleston type swimbaits so need a rod that can handle 8 to 10 inch baits up to 4 ounces. I typically am somewhat budget conscience, but since I’m only purchasing one rod I’m not at all concerned with price. The overall weight/sensitivity of the rod is really critical to me.

Rods are opinion, reels are large spool capacity and that’s required.

check the Cashion swimbait series they have sum 1/2 -2 oz , 1-4 oz , 4 – 8 oz Daiwa has swimbait rod also, best place to look is probably Tackle warehouse

Ek, not sure if your a face book user, but follow the dobyns rod group on fb, also swimbait universe and swimbait nation are good pages to read or have questions answered. I’m a dobyns fan myself and own 3 of their swim bait rods, the 794, 795, and 806. Most of mine are champion series rods they offer a good bit more sensitivity, but the one fury I have for the money is pretty good. You may wanna just start with a 806, its a bit more parabolic than some of their rods, but you can toss 8-10″ glides on it and it loads up nice on things like a s waver 200. It will toss the smaller stuff too like bull shads and all that. I dont fish huds much but I have tossed some 6-8″ huds or hud like baits on it and its pretty great. Your traveling down a very expensive road btw lol- good luck- Matt
